Cathay Pacific Delays/Cancellations

Re: General Cathay Pacific Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

The daytime CX139 from HKG should arrive in SYD about an hour late at 2110 on Tuesday 5 April. The returning CX155 is timetabled to push back from SYD at 2155 tonight so will be at least 25 minutes late.

Re: General Cathay Pacific Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

On Monday 11 April, CX111 arrived in SYD 101 minutes late at 0751 hours after departing HKG on Sunday 10 97 minutes late at 2027.

CX110, the 0730 Monday 11 SYD to HKG had not pushed back by 0915 hours despite a nominal planned (revised) departure time of 0845.

CX134, the 0745 hours MEL - HKG did not take off until 0845.

CX163, the 2155 hours Wednesday 13 April arrival in MEL ex HKG is about an hour and a half late.

About 700 air kilometres north, CX138, the 2155 hours SYD - HKG did not take off until 2248, not long before curferw. Aircraft is B773ER B-KQO.

The daytime HKG - MEL flight, CX163 on Sunday 8 May is expected to arrive in MEL about 70 minutes late at 2205.

The day flight from HKG on Wednesday 11 May, CX163, was timetabled into MEL at 2155 but will instead arrive on Thursday 12 at about 0150 hours. The return flight, CX178, the 2330 hours on Wednesday should depart at 0300 on Thursday - the only less enjoyable time I could think of to depart would be 0430 hours - which at roughly 70 minutes appears to be the minimum achievable turnaround for an A333. In comparison, minimum achievable turnaround for an A380 that has been observed through these 'delay' pages is about 98 minutes, so in that sense (assuming both models are full) there are some 'economies of scale.'

On Friday 13 May, CX139, the 0915 day flight from HKG to SYD took off at 1002. In the shape of B773ER B-KQE, it is about to arrive at about 2105 hours, an hour behind schedule.

As a result, CX138, the scheduled 2155 hours departure will be tardy departing, though perhaps by only 20 minutes if all goes well in the turnaround.

On Saturday 14 May 2016, CX162, the 1005 SYD - HKG is expected to depart half an hour late. This is due to CX161 being expected to arrive in SYD at 0916 rather than 0845.

While the minimum observed turnaround for planes the size of A333s tends to be 65 to 70 minutes, an 80 minute scheduled turnaround like this does not leave a lot of room for late running inbound.

CX162, the 1005 SYD to HKG was not airborne until 1120 on Wednesday 18 May, meaning an arrival at 1840 hours, 50 minutes late. A333 B-LAF is operating the flight.

The early morning arrival in MEL on Saturday 28 May 2016, CX135 is badly delayed with its 0625 timing put back until 1012. CX134 from MEL to HKG is supposedly to depart at 1113 instead of 0745 but that may be a tad optimistic. This three and a half hour delay will mean some missed connections.

soooo... just read your post here Melburnian1 and then two emails later a notify from CX that my flight from shanghai has been cancelled tonight. So they have taken my a330 from PVG to replace the next flight that would have been operated by the delayed 134!

MEL_Traveller, commiserations! If you could please keep us informed as to what replacement flight number(s) the airline pops you on and when these depart, whether any complimentary hotel stays are given to you, meals included or not, what the organisation was like - how long to and from the hotel - that would be great.

This sort of 'coalface' reporting is of immense value to future prospective travellers particularly if they are comparing airlines against each other. Few of us expect flights to be cancelled so when it occurs it is good to have at least a basic idea as to how an airline may treat a traveller, even a MEL_Traveller!

nothing that exciting!!

with the Melbourne inbound delayed to Hong Kong, the flight it would have operated would be without an aircraft. so they took the one off the shanghai flight (and cancelled my flight, which is exPvg)

rebooking took all of one minute, new ticket issued by CX in 15 minutes. will still make my original connection onwards from Hong Kong (if no delays ex China today!!)

For the second consecutive day, CX135, the scheduled 0635 hours arrival in MEL, was badly late, this time arriving at about 1125 on Sunday 29 May. CX134D took off from MEL at 1300 and should arrive in HKG at about 2010 hours this evening. Aircraft is A333 B-LAI.

yeah... big weather issues in Hong Kong and parts of China yesterday. I eventually got onto a third flight, the others I had been booked on were all cancelled. even then I was put on a flight running four hours late. by midnight HKG was looking ok, but earlier in the evening lots of delays apparently.

Mel_Traveller, did you "pad" your itinerary with contingency time and if so by how much. This would be of assistance for others to know how experienced travellers like yourself plan their itineraries.

delays out of shanghai can be anywhere 2,3, 4 or 8 hrs. I allowed 5 hours contingency and ended up with a one our connection in Hong Kong. not too bad all things considered.

Were you booked into 1 PNR?.

Oh yes! That made it a lot less stressful :)

The worst case scenario would have been an overnight in HKG - either via CX or my travel insurance. But didn't come to that.

Ex SHA/PVG I'd be scheduling at least 4 hours if on separate tickets, or if you have a flight you really need to catch (rather than being able to take the next one a few hours or a day later).

Saturday 4 June 2016 sees CX162 having been airborne from SYD at 1113 despite a departure time of 1005. With A333 B-LAH as the aircraft, HKG arrival should be at about 1820, half an hour late.

Re: Rumour:[Denied by RR] Qantas to ban JQ SYD-MEL pax from F lounges & send to J lou

On what has been a very wet Sunday 5 June in SYD and along much of the lower Australian east coast, CX139, the 0910 HKG to SYD took off at 1000 and is about to arrive at 2038, 33 minutes late. B-KQC is the B773ER.

Later, CX138, the 2155 hours departing flight from SYd to HKG had not taken off by 2310.
