Have searched here so If I have missed a thread please forgive me. I booked trip using VB points. Paid for taxes and petrol. Wife had drama, cancelled trip on line, Received cash for (taxes/petrol... less handling fee) to be credited.... But NADA on Points.... Not Velocity issue....numerous emails .... Ypu need to contact VB for a credit In AUD.. Most strange thought I would get some points back (less handling point fees) back rather than in the abyss.....Any strategies in getting my value back appreciated.. David (NB Next QF beef thread to follow if I dont get an answer tomorrow)

degarr,

Welcome to AFF.

Unfortunately I can't answer accurately so will have to sit aside and let one of the FF experts respond to this one.

The Velocity T&Cs have this to say.

"12.10.Air Reward bookings, and any booking changes, cancellations or refunds, are governed by the Virgin Blue, Pacific Blue or Polynesian Blue (as relevant) fare rules and terms and conditions of carriage applicable to that booking."

It appears that any refund depends on the type of fare that was booked with the points.

The way I interpret that is; if you booked the cheapest available fare (promo or blue saver) you will be charged a cancellation fee ($40?) and the balance of the monetary value will be held in credit (by DJ not Velocity) for future use (within 12 months).
I reckon you won't get your points back but should have $xx credit to use on DJ flights within 12 months.

Hence their statement to you -"Not Velocity issue....numerous emails .... Ypu need to contact VB for a credit In AUD."

Cheers..I appreciate that clarification... 1 product shared between 2 organisations :) ... I will track that down. Thanks again... David

That sounds crazy. I only have a small amount of Velocity points so when I have enough for an award I better make sure that I use them wisely. And to think that some people feel the QFF program is ordinary....

Not diminishing your intepretation but surely this can't be correct? Perhaps crazydave or the other virgin rep will step in and clarify?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Makes one wonder how Qantas will implement cancellations on AnySeat

It seems crazy to me too but that paragraph (12.10) is the only one I could find in the T&Cs that was relevant to the OP's question.
Here's a link to the Velocity Terms and Conditions.

Where's Crazydave when you need him?

It’s correct to say that when a member cancels a Velocity redemption booking they do not get the points back. However when they receive a credit shell with Virgin Blue (just quote the reservation number) for the dollar amount of the cancelled fare (less cancellation fees if applicable), they will earn points when they use that credit towards a new Virgin Blue booking (as per the usual VB earn proposition).

Cheers,

Ricky
