Buying Velocity points

Snap, I just got the email too and was looking here to see if anyone had any comments. I think 40% is the typical large discount for VA but that kicks in when buying 130,000 points.

We've only just burned all our Velocity points on two J seats on United to the US in a couple of weeks so I was looking to see if it would be worthwhile to reimburse ourselves the points. Will probably do another US trip later in 2024.

To reimburse the points we used would cost $2,667 for 190,000 points, about 1.4c/point not including any merchant fees for the purchase. So not bad value and not bad for two business class seats otherwise worth more than $9,000 each.

otherwise COST more than... ("worth" I think is what you would otherwise be prepared to pay, particularly when assessing the worth of points). Nevertheless good value.

did you add an internal USA domestic leg? I can't get it to pull up with an online search.

Out of the country but may have to use skype to call in and try.

So I bought 250,000 pts for $3,510.00 = $0.014/pt IMCAC.

I just booked VA J MEL-ADL-MEL Aug 24-26 for 31,000pts = $89.68 = Total Ret Tix Cost $524.48 IMCAC.

Comm Tix on same flts - J $998.01 / Y $389.99.

YEP I know only 1hr flts but it still makes the pts purchase a bargain for me.

Remember this thread? Today I redeemed 2 x J MEL-MCY for XMAS (Dec 22) for 23.5Kpts ea + $47.10ea = $376.10 IMCAC V Comm Tix $475.00ea - not a huge saving but little fish are sweet huh?

Not on award seats, no. In fact they don’t even show up on your activity statement for Velocity, so if you even need to piece together a travel history you need to remember any domestic award flights.
