otherwise COST more than... ("worth" I think is what you would otherwise be prepared to pay, particularly when assessing the worth of points). Nevertheless good value....otherwise worth more than $9,000 each
did you add an internal USA domestic leg? I can't get it to pull up with an online search.Snap, I just got the email too and was looking here to see if anyone had any comments. I think 40% is the typical large discount for VA but that kicks in when buying 130,000 points.
We've only just burned all our Velocity points on two J seats on United to the US in a couple of weeks so I was looking to see if it would be worthwhile to reimburse ourselves the points. Will probably do another US trip later in 2024.
To reimburse the points we used would cost $2,667 for 190,000 points, about 1.4c/point not including any merchant fees for the purchase. So not bad value and not bad for two business class seats otherwise worth more than $9,000 each.
Remember this thread? Today I redeemed 2 x J MEL-MCY for XMAS (Dec 22) for 23.5Kpts ea + $47.10ea = $376.10 IMCAC V Comm Tix $475.00ea - not a huge saving but little fish are sweet huh?So I bought 250,000 pts for $3,510.00 = $0.014/pt IMCAC.
I just booked VA J MEL-ADL-MEL Aug 24-26 for 31,000pts = $89.68 = Total Ret Tix Cost $524.48 IMCAC.
Comm Tix on same flts - J $998.01 / Y $389.99.
YEP I know only 1hr flts but it still makes the pts purchase a bargain for me.
Not on award seats, no. In fact they don’t even show up on your activity statement for Velocity, so if you even need to piece together a travel history you need to remember any domestic award flights.Do you get the full value J class status credits for the flights?
Up to 35% off before 15 May30% discount before 19 March:
Only if you buy the maximum 250,000 points for $3,510Up to 40% on now
Everyone has different thoughts and worth they put on points so depends what you want to use them for.Anyone have the answer at what % off does it kick in that buying points for flights is value?
Best summary I have yet to see. ThanksEveryone has different thoughts and worth they put on points so depends what you want to use them for.
I’ll give you one example and that is UA from BNE/SYD/MEL for example in J has good availability close out and a round trip would set you back 191k Velocity points plus fees of under $200. With no sale on points it would cost you $4680 but with the 40% sale it would cost you $3042. So you would be paying $3240 for a return trip to the US in J and for the same dates UA is asking over $15k and the cheapest flights are still over $6k.
That’s pretty good value if you ask me

You are obviously converting the Velocity points to KrisFlyer miles which isn’t a bad thingI bit the bullet and bought 250,000. With the points I already have it will be enough to get me a SQ trip to London in Suites one way and J the other next year.
I only fly once a year internationally and maybe once or twice domestically (OOL-SYD) normally so earning points and SCs from flying don't factor in to my decisions.
I've also hit my limit for churning Velocity CCs (4 so far this year, just been declined a couple of times so need to take a break) so that route for earning points is closed for a while.
My initial instinct has always been buying points isn't worth it but this thread has been quite enlightening and as with anything it really boils down to each person's definition of "value."
Why obviously? Aren't SQ suites avail with Velocity points? You are obviously converting the Velocity points to KrisFlyer miles which isn’t a bad thing
