Following in the footsteps of Serfty at the SYD QP cheese counter. The prepackaged presliced cheese is still here :( Soooo used to a nice cheese selection to go with a nice red. Particularly tragic that this is our third and last closed J lounge in a 4 day excursion. And they reopen tomorrow apparently

There is an upside. Staff have been taking friendly pills. Or perhaps friendly training. Three personal greetings fron glass picker uppers in one visit. Nice.

Same in BNE last night, really attentive staff there. Very impressed.

The space J lounge is smaller than the QP and would've made for a cramped QP when full. The CL occupies a similar space as the QP to the left of the escalators, and no way would Qantas have put the CL facing the car park, *especially* in Canberra!

I know the size and location of the CBR lounges - I just dont understand whey they didn't design them so the J lounge had a view (and not of the multi-storey carpark).

Not much changed in MEL J lounge. I was told the ceilings were painted and some upgrades were made in the kitchen.
Nothing that meets the eye.

Perhaps the closures had more to do with cost saving over the holiday period rather than any physical improvements.

I think that's a given.. It's just a pity QF had to lie about it.. I doubt many would care if it was explained the lounge was closed due to lower numbers and giving more people time off over Christmas.

Especially if they said they were giving more staff time off over Christmas period, makes them sound like a very nice employer... but perhaps that's not entirely true either and saying that could land them in hot water with unions? :p Is there a union for lounge staff? :p

What is this "J" lounge you all speak of?

We poor Westerners know of no such thing.

I noticed some maintenance people still working on the Showers in the SYD J Lounge mid-morning this morning. I noticed that the lighting seemed different and perhaps the tiles looked a bit whiter/brighter. Didn't get a chance to take a good look.

Ausbt's story seems to indicate what "maintenance" work was done. Qantas business lounges re-open for 2014 - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

The seating in the BNE J Lounge has been re-arranged, and possibly an improvement, rather than an "enhancement". Shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic? Sure, perhaps, but it did seem to make a bit of a difference to flows of people in the lounge.

Wouldnt that require the lounges to be closed for maintenance?

Westerners are not alone - Adelaide, Darwin and Hobart all miss out as well.

What surprised me in Perth QP over the weekend was that the wine is no longer self serve - neither was the ham for a toasted sandwich, it was rationed out by a staff member behind the counter

For so long? I'm not sure.
Anyway, I wasn't complaining, just reporting what I saw (or in this case didn't saw) when the lounge reopened.
Everyone knows the true reason for closing the lounges was to cut costs during the less busy festive season.

What a surprise.

I think I've made my opinion clear earlier in this thread.

I'm just annoyed that 'Brad' ousted me as mayor of the Sydney T3 business lounge on four square, over the period that it was closed.

It's just not cricket, checking into something that is closed.
