They are doing back burning out Tidbinbilla way I believe. We have had a couple drops of rain, not even worth putting the wipers on!

The crew of that DC10 will know this area quite well by the time they leave.

BDOG125 has also been doing a lot of work, guessing it's a spotter plane.

We are getting a light drizzle at the moment to add to what we had last night. All helps the garden, but we need a lot more. Apparently just having moisture in the air helps control the fires.

I'm glad that QLD sent a little your way.mrsdrron says we have had 140mm in a bit less that 48 hours.

It was drizzling this morning when I headed out to the airport for Melbourne, and hopefully will be raining when I get home tonight - fingers crossed

According to the latest update the burnt perimeter within the ACT is 134km but only 74 is now active fire edge. Getting a few little squalls of rain but hopefully by the time it blows through over the next few days all will be under control. All the ACT fires are now marked as “being controlled” rather than “out of control”

Lots of good news - state of alert has been lifted for the ACT and the Currowan fire on the coast is finally out. This was the one in the Shoalhaven area. Another few days of rain will be good.

the army and the local authorities have been busy building constructs to try to prevent ash washing into Canberra’s dams - it was a huge problem after the 2003 fires.

You should be getting a reasonable amount of rain across the fire grounds now, based on this:

Warragamba Dam has increased almost 20% on capacity in the past week (read last few days). Wonder if it will end up spilling? Other Sydney dams reporting 30% to 50% increases. Hope they manage the influx better than Brisbane did a few years ago!

Good one @RooFlyer.Only 2 dams are at a lower level than a year ago which is amazing considering how dry the last year has been.

The coast has had a massive amount of rain and we have had good rain. Saturday was dribs and drabs but yesterday it just rained steadily all day and a lot overnight. Airport gauge has 60mm for the last 24 hours and there is still a little forecast for the next couple of days.

Apparently they expect to have all NSW fires extinguished by the weekend. ACT’s fire is now under control but not enough rain to extinguish.

hopefully that the end for this season - I know there is still awhile to go.

Our dams are a bit depressing - we have gone from about 44.4 full to 44.9. I guess the soil was so dry they are not getting much runoff. However the rain in Canberra means people don’t need to water gardens as much, so a benefit there. Hopefully we will get more rain and the dams will fill up a bit more.

Sydney doesn't need restrictions now.Total storage at 71.4%

A pity that a plan to increase the height of Warragamba means the UN now must give their approval to do this.

I was surprised to hear on the radio today that they only expect a further 10% increase over the coming week.

And isn't that just ridiculous?
