Australian Cricket Season 2026-27 (150th “Ashes” Melbourne March 2027)

Seems like a different pitch. I wonder if the CA's XI beating Bangladesh very easily earlier in the week, including bowling them out for 54 in the second innings, made the Australians a bit too complacent?

Definitely. Seen it many times. 'Oh, this will be a doddle, can switch off ...'

Pretty decent test cricket there, but a huge upset, to state the obvious. Our top order has been too fragile for way too long. It's entirely the selectors fault for letting Warner play on for so long. Great form by Head has papered over that to some extent, but he needs to be at 5. Webster or Green, but not both unless one can identify as a bowling all-rounder. So what to do with 1 and 3? I'm fine with more time for Weatherald. No obvious candidates in the Shield, other than Weatherald himself. Maybe there'll be more chatter about Constas in the next week. Heads should roll after a loss like this but the way cricket goes these days, nothing will happen and we'll probably thrash them in Mackay in 2.5 days. I hope we're not having the same conversation in a few months though.

Congratulations Bangladesh - a thoroughly deserved victory against a very lacklustre and (dare I say) arrogant Aussie team. I reckon the Australia A team would have given the Tigers a much closer run and quite possibly beaten them.
They beat them and bowled them out in the second innings for 54 !

I reckon they should axe Green from next test. Seems improbable he could fluke another good innings given history. :)

Weatherald axed but why have they kept Labuschagne?

IMHO The selectors and coach need to go as well.

He will probably score a century in Mackay and keep his place for another year.:rolleyes:

There’s a couple of factors at play here: the first is that Australia have chosen to bowl first in Mackay when the pitch is at its most difficult for batting and they’ve taken advantage of it. Might still be spicy when Australia bats but should flatten out and be much easier. In Darwin, Bangladesh got the best of the conditions with the ball early and did a good job.

Secondly, there will always be a reversion to the mean. Australia are easily the better team and over the longer term will win more games. That doesn’t mean Bangladesh can’t play well for long periods and we saw that with their victory in Darwin.

For all the talk of how fragile the batting is and how old the bowling unit is getting, look at the standings for the Test championship and you’ll see what I mean.

Finally, the Bangladeshis played a practice match in Darwin before the first Test. Now, they might have been comfortably beaten by the CA XI, but they still went to the trouble of actually scheduling the game. The Australian team… they did a short red-ball nets based work up. Sometimes you can get away with lesser preparation, sometimes not.
