Building a stronger Qantas

Put this in the other (now locked) thread... Some things not mentioned in the announcement - does this mean no changes to these services on QF metal - there was considerable speculation about these on here.
  • SIN-FRA
  • SYD-MNL
  • SYD-HNL
  • SYD-CGK
  • SIN-BOM
  • SYD-NRT - seemed implied QF21/22 would remain to feed the JQ franchise?
  • LAX-JFK
  • AKL-LAX

If you expand your code sharing agreements, please look to ensure that when I book I can then select my seats online as normal. Please make sure Qantas systems 'talk' to the other airlines systems.

To me seat selection is important. I fly Qantas when Qantas fly end-to-end (or the majority of the route). Where Qantas doesn't I now use an airline that does. Failing that, I fall back to Qantas.

Personally, I hate code share. Typically I often find my WP benefits don't seem to carry across or don't carry the full "value" with the other airline.

Post of the thread. With BA's "pay for seat selection" rule and the follow exemption from the ability to do advance seat selection if you are OW emerald, changing to BA at BKK/HKG sucks!

[h=4]You cannot pay to choose your seat if:[/h]

  • your booking has been made through another airline.

Any talk on when the B744's will be retired? (Just noticing the "early retirement" of B744's \ B763's and B734's)

Four this financial year - then I suspect the next 13 to go reasonably quickly.
Nine to be reconfigured - medium term long-haul fleet is 14 A380s and 9 747s. Then the next 6 A380s to be delivered in 2018 to 2021 to replace the 9 747s...

Interesting as commented above was the lack of comment on deployment for the 787s and the outstanding options

Sounds like a contraction of QF International, a focus on relatively short haul and a new International Premium Airline, Asia-based, launched on a 'wing and a prayer'

Doesn't sound like a confident strategy for QF Intl to me :(:(

Wonder when they'll actually change the schedule... Just booked a BKK-LHR on QF1 for next year.

•No mention of improvements for Platinum FF members, and still no announcements with regards to P1, leaving me in limbo as to a decision for my preferred carrier when my current FF year expires on 30 Sept.

I do find it interesting that "as one of our most valued customers" (quoting from the mass FF email) there was no mention of any changes (good or bad) that are actually targeted at the top FF tier - and in the absence of any mention I'm be inclined to think the worst.

When Virgin Australia announces their Platinum tier, QF will have a look at what they are offering and then counter it...

It's a waiting game

Dear Qantas,

If you expand your code sharing agreements, please look to ensure that when I book I can then select my seats online as normal. Please make sure Qantas systems 'talk' to the other airlines systems.

Don't make me have to ring a call centre who then give a message that they too can only select Aisle or Window but to "not worry as a WP I'll be assured a good seat". But then only to find I'm up the back somewhere next to the toilet. I also like to look for better seats as they become available. I also like to ensure the aircraft type hasn't changed at the last minute.

So I have no issue with code sharing. Just make it transparent to me. Make it look like Qantas. Make it look like what I'm used to using. Don't make me have to learn something else when I just want to get somewhere.

May be I've just been unlucky.

Hi nonpop,
You raise some valid points. I've just discussed with the manager of our airline alliances, she's looking into your questions in more detail, so we'll come back with a response. Cheers, Red Roo

On BA at least (given they use Amadeus) I have never had any trouble with seat selection, although I will always get the carrier (metal) airline ref and do individual seat selection on each website.

BA manage my booking is quite good.

I'm still digesting all of this.

I do like that they are actively participating in the forums today as well as responding to concerns on Twitter. Much better PR than previous enhancement announcements.

How come everytime I see one of these announcements I feel my FF & Gold loyality is less valued to myself and my staff.
Now I know why I'm using Singapore and Virgin more and more....
Better service and the want to reward loyality at all levels.

Cheers,
Mark.

My personal take on the announcement:

Good:
•A proper First lounge at LAX. Hopefully there's some money left over after hiring Marc Newson to pay for a decent internet connection.

Bad:
•Fewer QF flights from Australia to LHR = potentially fewer (classic) award opportunities, significantly fewer upgrade opportunities as you can't upgrade on a codeshare flight.

•No mention of improvements for Platinum FF members, and still no announcements with regards to P1, leaving me in limbo as to a decision for my preferred carrier when my current FF year expires on 30 Sept.

Given the scope of the changes to Qantas Airlines, we want to ensure that all our Qantas Frequent Flyers are aware of them.
In regards to changes to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, as announced in May, we will be annoucing the details of PlatinumOne later this year and we are also working on improving the upgrade process. I will be sure to keep you posted as soon as I have more info here.

Cheers,
Red Roo

Probably going to sack some staff and that will make them profitable again.

Cancel a few routes and take benefits off there loyal FF's and they will be more profitable.

Not because they have made bad decisions over many years.

Right now 82 out of every 100 people flying out of Australia are choosing to fly with an airline other than Qantas, not including Jetstar.
Did anyone else think this figure was surprisingly high?

Dear RedRoo

Can you give us any indication when the EZE flights will switch over to SCL? We have tickets to fly to EZE in November. (We're happy to fly via SCL actually so it's not a problem- just wondering).

I was also wondering, if there is going to be a big shift to using codeshares on partners (BA, MH) whether any consideration is being given to being able to upgrade on these (e.g., on longhauls from the Asian gateway through to Europe). Obviously, the ability to upgrade is one of the things that keeps us top-tiers members loyal to QF.

Thanks

LO
