Brisbane hotel quarantine (live)

Hang in there @oz_ally And I really hope the 14 days passes quickly for you. I’m really enjoying your posts as they are quite informative about hotel quarantine conditions. I would be interested to hear how you are able pass the time and how you break your day up - or if you just decide to treat it as a wonderful chance for sloth and self care.

Well at least there are a bunch of us really interested in your predicament and as a lifetime BNE resident, no better place you could have been put into quarantine. Get into that binging :D

Great information and photos you are posting. Really helpful for people to both know what to do and what not to do.
Thank you 🥰

So how was your first night in quarantine - sleeping arrangements, dinner menu & taste, outside sounds? What are you doing about exercise?

Are you allowed to have care packages delivered to you? If so as a BNE resident happy to bring you anything you need.
Yes we are. Thank you so much for that. I’m all good so far because I still had my travelling supplies that I took to Darwin. We can also order from outside shops etc like Uber eats, probably Woolies and Coles and I had my meds delivered from Priceline yesterday. Just need a room number and they take it to reception.

Photo of my travel supplies 😀 my collection of teas that I get from motels I have recently stayed in - if they have them. And other items that I’ve found I’ve needed on other travels. Some places don’t always have certain kitchen items. One of my favourite finds is that little green fold out chopping board that I discovered in a shop like Daiso. 😀

Apologies for the OT

@QF WP , I didn't know that this can be done. Thank you for your post. I'm now listening to YSSY Approach (North/East), SYD feed :)

do you recommend any channels to listen - particularly ones with more traffic? The SYD channel I'm on is not that busy

So what was on the dinner menu tonight? Are you allowed alcoholic beverages?
Just discovered multi-quote 😏 I’ll attach the menu for today and tomorrow and photos of meals I’ve had since that first one I posted. When breakfast is delivered the day’s menu is attached. Yes we can have alcohol. There is a menu on the TV to order booze and snacks. I’ll attach photos of that too as well as the info pages provided by Marriott and another bit about alcohol from the QLD government welcome pack.
2 weeks and bad food. Can you order menulog or Coles? Can you order microwave, blender ect for delivery?
Actually the food has been really nice. Yes there are some things I’m given that I don’t like (the abomination that is watermelon 🤮😂), red delicious apples, cans of soft drink and most of the juices. But my bestie back home and her 2 young boys love the juice and apples so they are going in my suitcase 😏 yes you can definitely order outside food but I haven’t felt the need because what I get here is more than enough. Regarding appliances they won’t allow anything electrical in over 1000w. It would be nice to have a microwave only to reheat my meals because they really aren’t hot by the time they are delivered. I know they’re doing their best.

Thank you. I’m glad that my posts are interesting to some. I had no idea what would really happen in hotel quarantine either. I only hear the negative stories in the media. Maybe it depends on what hotel you’re staying in, personality (some people can’t hack being cooped up. I’m an introvert so I’m all good 😏), food being served. I think some people just like to whinge too. I didn’t expect this to happen but it did so I’m just dealing with it and for myself it’s not that bad. Yes I miss my friends, kids (adults), my computer 🤓 and my cats 😹😻 but I’ll see them again.

As for my days I’ve hardly had time to binge watch anything so far. I get messages and my bestie goes to my house twice a day to feed my cats so when my google nest alerts me she’s there we FaceTime and catch up and I can see my cats 😳😏🐈😼😺 and talk to them 🥴

Another lady from back home also offered to be my exercise buddy while I’m here 😵😳😵‍💫 It’s not my favourite thing although I do walk a lot at home because I don’t drive. I said ok I’ll give it a whirl. So today we started and she had me doing 100 squats every hour on the hour from 10am to 3pm. 🥴 I can’t believe I did it. She’s really fit so it’s something she is always doing. I bet I sleep well tonight and will be paying for the squats tomorrow. She wants me to do it every day. I might as well 😵

I also have my crossword app on my iPad and my Telstra TV plugged into the motel telly. I’ve got heaps of eBooks that I’ve never read. So yeah Day 3 and so far so good. Just hope it won’t be famous last words 😏
So how was your first night in quarantine - sleeping arrangements, dinner menu & taste, outside sounds? What are you doing about exercise?
First night I was a bit restless. I’d had a stressful time the night before trying to work out that QLD entry permit and worrying if I’d have to quarantine. Then it was a long few hours waiting for my flight in Melbourne airport with no lounge 😭 and only a couple of shops open. My flight left Melbourne at 17:10 and arrived in Brisbane at 19:04. With all the border stuff and being escorted on the bus here I think it was around 9 by the time we arrived then dinner came at nearly 10:30. So it was really late by the time I fell asleep with so much on my mind and having to let people know what was happening. I really didn’t sleep very well and kept waking up so got up early anyway. But last night was much better.

I have a King room - obviously to myself because I travelled alone. I tried to get a direct weblink but couldn’t seem to. Just go to www.marriott.com.au and go to rooms. Mine is the

City view Guest room, 1 King, Brisbane City view

Can’t hear anything outside at all - windows must be sound proof. It’s pretty quiet inside (corridor). I do hear the dinner trolley coming and yesterday I did hear someone’s toddler crying a lot. I’ve had kids so I can only imagine what it was like for the parent(s) and the child but you lose a bit of sympathy after a while 😏 There were no little kids among my detainees so hopefully they arrived before me so will go home soon. I don’t recall hearing any squawking today though so they may have left.

I could only attach 10 files to the above post so here are the rest I made mention of. A few more to add but Dropbox is playing up 😵

Edit: all good now.
Edit 2: tonight’s tea photo

With the quarantine cost, they should give you free alcohol ..... Shame you cannot order a carton from Dan Murphy's.

Glad you have a positive attitude in all this. You will be able to tell this to your friends, relatives for years to come ....

700w if you’re desperate 😆
Well it’s only day 3 and it might be just what I need. I’ll go check to see if there’s any reviews 😏 and I’ll get 48 everyday reward points 🤣

4 & 5 star reviews on Product Review 😳 🤩

actually I thought microwaves had heaps more wattage 🤔 for some reason I thought mine at home was 10,000 but it must be 1000. I’m going to double check with reception and if it’s all good I’m going to get me one of these babies.

All good with reception because it’s brand new but can’t find it anywhere for delivery 😩 Capalaba apparently has it in stock and my son lives at MT Gravatt East so I’ll see if he can go grab me one. He hasn’t thought to drop off any care packages to his mum (yet) 😏 so he should be able to do this for me. 😜

Another edit: son is picking up and dropping off said microwave tomorrow 🥰 Thanks for the heads up about it @MelMel 😘

Sounds like you'll cope to the end just fine @oz_ally. Exercise, physical and mental stimulation, talking to friends and your fur babies :D

I can relate in some small way, as I flew to ADL on 31st March and when I boarded the VA BNE/MEL flight we weren't in lockdown (this was back in the days with reduced schedules and why fly direct, when I could connect and get there 10 mins earlier than the direct flight). I'd had a COVID test on the Saturday afternoon and as instructed, quarantined until my flight on Monday 7am. It wasn't until I landed in MEL that I found out that Qld had gone into lockdown at 8am. Upon leaving the plane, I was interviewed by VicHealth people and showed my pass (and the fact that I was transiting), which allowed me to transit to my ADL flight (they didn't want to keep me). I considered cancelling my VA MEL/ADL flight and my return 8.15pm QF ADL/BNE flight (but was already 20 mins before departure as I had min connection time); plus I didn't want to get stuck in MEL in case they were going to cancel flights. So I opted to keep going and thought I would be able to enter ADL given I had their pass and the negative COVID test (result had come through).

But no, after deplaning we had to go through the SA Health checkpoint and when they saw my drivers licence and irrespective of my negative COVID test result, I was escorted from the checkpoint by SA police so I never had the chance to go landside. I endured 8 hours in a downstairs section near the entrance to the hotel bar, which was roped off and I was required to wear a mask. They then escorted me to my plane. At least I wasn't the only one corraled there, about a dozen people joined me throughout the day (but I was one of the last to leave, as there were no other flights on which I could get a seat).

We'll keep reading your posts and wondering what it would be like to be in your situation.

yea .. they could at least allow you to order a carton and have a 6 pack delivered to your room each day during the dinner service .... Although, if you chose to purchase a 750 ml whisky or vodka bottle - do they only measure out the standard drinks per day and serve you ? Wondering how they'll monitor the drinks/day if the customer purchases a 750 ml bottle.

Oh @QF WP doesn’t sound like a fun way to spend 8 hours. Especially with no lounge and the bar roped off 😳 I’m not a big drinker but will have a mimosa at Virgin lounge because why not 😂

And I forgot to mention that I had my first COVID test here yesterday and got a text this morning to say it was negative. But I had no doubt it would be 😏

Yes but mine was only 8 hours, yours is 14 days! Plus I got to do my work with clients remotely (via telephone and FaceTime rather than in person), so it wasn't a complete loss. I ended up going back in May and seeing everyone. I got to order my lunch from the bar, but I needed to remind the police at 2pm that we were all getting a little peckish. They escorted us to the bar to order and to the nearby toilets when needed. Being masked up wasn't an issue.

Great to see the first test was negative, as hoped and expected. 👍

After reading all the menus and Marriott information, pretty impressed that they appear to have a good process. Fingers crossed you keep getting food items you like, rather than ones you can't store and take with you after quarantine.

Well speaking from experience, you might feel it a bit when you try to lower yourself onto a chair, bed or the loo tomorrow. That delayed onset muscle soreness is a killer. Vigorous massage of the sore areas will help, as will drinking plenty of fluids to help the muscle toxins pass. Also, keep up a lighter/slower exercise even if sore - it definitely helps it to resolve a bit faster in my experience (Seat Daughter (34) is a part time group fitness instructor, so boy do I know it! 😆

Yes I’m not looking forward to all that tomorrow 😳😂 yes making sure to keep up with the water 😉 Definitely will take it easier tomorrow if I’ve seized up 😩
