So the time came for me to change an mASA today. I had a two segment U-U and wanted to change to U-P both on a different date. I have done this previously before June 30, 2014. Note that the booking (ie 6 character alpha-numeric code) stays the same, only the ticket number changes.

I refer to this quote below as reference:

Yes, changes are permitted as they always have been as per the applicable commercial fare rules, including rebooking into existing redemption classes where available.

Thing is, I was on the phone for 44 mins and didn't really get anywhere.
I was told that any changes to the whole booking are treated as the equivalent BFOD pricing, even if there is award availability.
There was also no option to change class, which was possible previously and there are no "applicable commercial fare rules" preventing such an occurrence in this case.
I could change the date of one segment only to the same class in order to keep the same pricing - which is what I ended up doing.

Obviously there is a lot of misinformation and there needs to be an official stance clarifying the issue.

Red Roo - can you comment? I've had numerous PM exchanges with you, with the promise of "someone will contact you today" which have been ignored.

This is a poor service by Qantas - as has been mentioned numerous times here, if QF want to get back in the black they need to up their game.

I was told essentially the same thing in May when asking about the changeability of a JASA booking post-simplification, but took reassurance from the Red Roo clarification you've quoted.

When booking a PASA today, I was told that prior to June 30, it can be changed free of charge provided that there is P availability, but that from July 1 any change would be priced at "fare of the day".

The person I spoke with was extremely competent, so I tend to believe that there is something worth listening to there.

Thanks, but my example shows that it is not subject to "fare of the day" pricing - the change was something like $8 which provided a stopover...

An update: I enquired about a quote for changing the long haul from U to P (well, A technically) and was told due to the system being slow, I would get a call back to let me know once it had worked it out.

Two days later, I still don't have a response and call again.

I got it changed to U-P, both on the new date. :D Yes, P. Fare difference was as expected. I did get charged the $80 service fee but I don't think I'll bother because it is not worth the risk. Two birds and all.
I asked about the points/SC earn just to double check and was put on hold with the supervisor. The response was a definite yes to points/SC earn because the booking was made on or before 30 June 2014.
All hope is not lost!
