Hello folks. I'm looking to book some flights with EK next year for points. Flying ex PER I'm inclined to spring the extra points for F, but be happy enough in J for the DXB-Somewhere-In-Europe leg, and vice versa.

I looked at booking the flights under separate itineraries, both risky and more costly. Is it plausible to book PER xDXB MAD (for example) with PER DXB return in F and the DXB MAD return in J, while enjoying what appears to be a points discount for the through fare?

Cheers,
Alex

No, it's not possible. When you book an awards fare with mixed classes, you pay for the entire award based on the higher fare class. Therefore if you want to keep it in one booking you may as well go F the entire way as the points will be the same.

The alternative is to book it as two separate tickets, but as you mention this will still use more points than a single booking and is inherently more risky. Although in saying that given that it's all with EK would be less risky than two separate bookings with two different carriers.
