Bonus United Miles - Up to 100%

I love the search engine for UA.

Looks like there's award availability from NZ to LAX in Aug direct and about 8 days in Sept. Otherwise booking east coast US, Caribbean or Europe/UK seems good value.
It's tempting as the 100% bonus doesn't seem to come along often but I'm not 100% sure I can make use of it in the next 12 - 18 months:(. Need more leave to use the points, but need to work to buy the points - gah!!

First time in 12 months they've had a 100% bonus. It's the one I've been hanging out for. Cost including tax recovery fee is 1.88c USD) per mile.

Be careful about the devaluation though, it hit Australia - Asia routes badly, Australia - South Asia was one of the sweet spots for UA mile redemption.

True - but bookings made before 1 Nov can be for a year in advance. But a major advantage is wide-open availability for LH F!

Exchange rate is pretty decent too so I'm definitely tempted with this offer.

Actually I just realised I wasn't looking at the *A partner chart and it's actually 90K to use UA to Europe from NZ/Oz which with taxes combined doesn't look to be very good value considering you can find cheaper using google flights to pay cash fare, dates you want, and earn points.

I like the idea of being able to fly short notice (1-2 months) NZ to LAX during low season. It is cheaper than what NZ charges for the direct flight even on sale. About $1,000 cheaper each way departing from Australia.

Tossing up between availability of NZ direct with UA redemption vs getting a sale fare from Australia. Both would likely be low seasons but I suspect there are more sale dates ex Aus than availability dates with UA. But UA would cut out 8hrs of back tracking...... IF available.

I'm thinking Alaska Mileage Plan is better to get to Asia AKL-HKG?

LH F availability is the only reason I'm considering this.
When it's not available via LM, UA is next best option.
With United Miles, can you book LH F > than 14 days out? edit Yes you can!

I don't mind the T-14 days restriction. Always check LM first as it's much better value and only if no availability then go and book via UA.

LH + LM :(. One blogger suggests LM shows strong LH availability during miles sales (the 2-4-1 offers) which is then withdrawn when the sale finishes. I haven't tested that theory, but ATM LM is blocking almost all LH availability. There's a smattering of flights 1-3 days before departure for TATL, and if very lucky you might find a flight 5 days out. Just about all of Europe to Asia is blocked. UA on the other hand has multiple daily LH flights out of just about everywhere in the USA, and connections to everywhere else from there. And all at 14 days.

Even with this promo, 1 UA mile costs an expensive 1.88 cents US!. Anyone know if the same F LH awards seen on Ua.com are also available if using Sq Krisflyer miles? Sq Krisflyer rmiles are easier and cheaper for me to obtain :)

Didn't find any direct connection between sale periods and availability but there are definitely periods with more availability and some (like now) with absolutely nothing. I always treat LM as second or third option to the more reliable programmes and will never gamble on last minute availability just with them. It's always important to have other options, like UA miles but when LM shows seats they are by far the best value.

I have been waiting for this 100% promo. Need to book a few trips to Thailand next year. UA is a little expensive but I will keep buying for peace of mind. They saved us last month when we needed to have an emergency trip back home in J from Europe.

Topcashback.com gives 2.5% when buying miles for some hotel/airline programs including UA on points.com. Not much but still money :D

Are you aware of the devaluation later this year?

Is it still possible to build a stopover, or has that been killed off?

I'm looking at SYD-BKK-MUC(F)-JNB(J) for 115k, however would like to stop in Munich.
