Bonus United Miles - Up to 100%

Is it still possible to build a stopover, or has that been killed off?

I'm looking at SYD-BKK-MUC(F)-JNB(J) for 115k, however would like to stop in Munich.

No stopovers - except for a limited exception for a 'free flight' within a zone.

I have been waiting for this 100% promo. Need to book a few trips to Thailand next year. UA is a little expensive but I will keep buying for peace of mind. They saved us last month when we needed to have an emergency trip back home in J from Europe.

Topcashback.com gives 2.5% when buying miles for some hotel/airline programs including UA on points.com. Not much but still money :D

How do you use Topcashback.com and points.com in Australia? They seem to be an American site?

Best value I have found for miles redemption is a sneaky ow trip to Europe in J with carry on only.
Try SYD-TLV you should me able to find routing through a lot of *A European hubs. Just leg it through customs and "accidentally" miss your connection.

I would NOT do this regularly and probably not if I have a large amount of UA miles just in case they try to close my account for breaking the rules.

I just burnt my remaining 80K miles on a return SYD-HKG TG F, hopefully they don't swap out the new config F 747's and I'll be very happy with maximizing my value before the devalue.

Well I just bought some miles and redeemed them for a RAR-AKL-SYD-HND-HIJ itinerary, flying NZ for the first 2 flights and NH for the last two flights. There's an overnight stop in AKL as well.

All up, 12,500 miles in Y. The miles cost USD350 and the booking taxes were just over $100. This is also bookable in J for 30,000 miles (costing USD700 to buy), although the RAR-AKL and HND-HIJ sectors book into Y anyway.

I just searched for flights from RAR to HIJ. Should work for anywhere in "Oceania" to/from Japan.

What route did you search to get that price?

United sure has some weird routings...

PPT-AKL-NRT-GUM-KIX in Business on every flight, except PPT-AKL.

The flight time / distance, is equivalent to going half way round the world.

Is Japan a glitch? SYD/BNE-TPE/ICN/PVG are all 40,000 miles in business.

No, not a "glitch" per se. That's the published rate as per their award chart for any route between Japan and "Oceania" ;)

Yeah it's pretty crazy, AUS-EUR in J 85K SEA-EUR 85K roughly an extra 10hrs flight for the same in miles???

Or you could try Oceania (eg Papeete) to Europe via AKL or SYD for 75,000.

For a bit of fun, you could also try NAN to GUM in Y for 12,500 miles.

Seems that United has finally worked out where Australia is on the map, but not Oceania (yet).
