"Bonus Confirmed Complimentary Upgrade"?

I effectively didn't get one.

I rang on Monday to book and upgrade for a BNE to PER flight on Friday which was approved. I then saw this thread, checked my account and have 2 upgrade expiring on the 8th of Sept 2012, and no bonus upgrade. Looks as though the guy on the phone used the newest first rather than the older ones.

Will let dust settle and then ring them I think and ask for my bonus back. Not sue how I will go though..

It was my understanding that every Plat and Gold received 1 Bonus Upgrade. Both BIS and status matched received it.

It's an interesting goodwill gesture that's not costing them very much (even if most use it).

For those that buy Saver fares, it is enticing them to increase their spend to a Flexi in order to use the bonus. Healthy increase in revenue, as I would presume that is the majority.

For those that buy Flexi, it's revenue neutral to VA but an enticement for those to fly Business in the future and additional revenue may flow - a greater $ amount than the uplift from Saver to Flexi IMO.

For those that buy Business, it's a conundrum - they will downgrade their purchase to a Flexi in order to use it. But that is a small percentage that I'm sure VA are willing to carry.

Some won't use it at all, so VA have lost nothing in offering it.

I'm sure VA will have that stats, but as a straw poll, how many of us actually used our initial quota? I've only used 2 out of 4, and that was deliberate for the AFF Do. My domestic travel has dropped to nothing this year.

I'm still 1 or 2 sectors short of re-qualifying though, so I may need to do a run somewhere...

I used my 4 - for travel Melbourne to/from Perth & Cairns.

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

Should I be feeling left out that I didn't get one? :( I have been based in NY but just moved back to Melbourne. I've accrued a few SCs on Virgin Atlantic this year, but only started flying on Virgin Australia in August. I did MEL-AUH-CDG return in J and, as you can see from the captured image, I went silver on 14/8 and gold on 16/8. Perhaps there was a cutoff a few weeks ago?

They all seem to expire on August 15 next year, so maybe you missed out by one day if it was based in data pulled on 15/8 this year. :(

Oh well, our corporate policy is that any trip over 3 hours is in J, so not a huge loss given that nearly all my flying is to JFK or LHR.

I have read through the thread , and may have missed it , but is this solely for Domestic upgrade , or can in be used to upgrade on VA international

solely domestic from flexi to Business
. Thats a bummer, was planning ( and still am) to fly with VA in PE to LAX in Feb & this would have nice "cream on the top" to do it Biz . Thanks smit0847

I used all 4 original comps MEL-SYD-PER-SYD-MEL (J on all flights but only 2 comps used due to ticket structure), and then MEL-PER-MEL. All transcons on the A330. And will very likely find a way to use every one I get, and likely on transcon A330, 'cos it is such a good service. :)

Agreed. And for around $600 MEL-PER return on a flexi, the full SC's, Excellent points earn, and the fact it's only around $200 more than QF's O/N class, it's a no brainer to effectively pay $200 more to fly in J (and it's pretty much the same as a super saver on QF, not even a flexi!).

I've heard rumors that it might be possible to use the upgrade for short-haul international (mainly trans-Tasmanian).

Has anyone else heard something like this?

Was just wondering, does anyone know if these can be used with the 2for1 Virgin card fares?

Say if I book DJ SYD-PER flexi 2for1, will I be able to use my confirmed complimentary upgrade to business?
