Playground stuff if you ask me. The usual suspects are criticising a Labor politician, who I reckon has written a very readable diary. I bet he laughs all the way to the bank.

I understand the money is all going to charity, so he is only doing this for ego and spite, I suppose.

And they're quoting tidbits out of context from the Murdoch press. Why am I not surprised?

In any case, the intellectual capacity of the whingers in thread is laid bare. Outhouse service is not mitigated by someone else paying. It is weak minded to suggest otherwise.

Absolute proof that the Murdoch press will stop at no low for political purposes and that the usual suspects will lap it up with a decent dose of humour bypass included.

Fairfax papers are having a go at him as well-
Bob Carr's Diary takes aim at Julia Gillard and Kevin Rudd for mistakes

'I'm the best chairman I know': Bob Carr's Diary reveals former foreign minister's diva demands

But this is his legacy to the ALP-

Bob Carr came to the premiership of NSW in 1995 having told voters that he expected that his front bench would be ministers in the portfolios they had shadowed. And that was as it was, except for one obligation Carr seemed to have accumulated but had not mentioned. After his victory, he called in Bob Martin, erstwhile shadow minister for mines and fisheries, and told him he would have to step aside. Room had to be found for Obeid, a businessman and Labor member of the Legislative Council, who was (with Joe Tripodi) the chief of the dominant subfaction of the NSW Right, known as the Terrigals from the location of one of the Obeid summer palaces. Bob Martin was a member of the other right-wing subfaction, known as the Trogs, or Troglodytes.
Martin made a fuss and refused to accept the Carr verdict. He appealed to caucus. Carr voted for Obeid. But the vote was a tie, and the names were put in a hat. Martin's came out, and he was the first Carr minister for mines and fisheries. The second, four years later, was Obeid

He says similar things to many who post here. And my guess is many here don't pay for their fares either. At least he appears to have a sense of humour. Oops, I forgot the sad tall poppy syndrome we tend to have.

He may say things that are similar to some who post here. However , AFAIK no one on this site is an elected (albeit shoe horned in) represenative of the Australian people, flying on the Tax payer dollar (not private enterprise dollar) .as a self funded traveller I am offended by this fool.

Just for the record I have felt embarrassed that we unleashed Rudd and Carr onto the world stage and we funded both of them. Bob Carr should have paid for his wife when she tagged along at our expense.
I am sure we have had idiots from the other side as well and no I am not a Rupert, James nor Lachlan fan when it comes to the Murdoch family.

I would guess that most of us here have experienced J at some stage or another. We all have the things we like and dislike. Therefore among ourselves, complaining that the champagne / beer was a little too warm, or the seat / bed wasn't as comfy is probably ok, since here the audience is primarily frequent flyers.

However Bob Carr's book is not targeted towards frequent flyers, it is targeted to the general population, most of which assuming they even fly, it is likely to be infrequent, and the higher classes is simply seen as something they must walk past as they head towards their own seat in Y.

The higher classes (PE / J / F) are what the average non-frequent flyer looks up at thinking "one day". So to then have this person come along to them and say "yeah, it's not so great" is absolute arrogance.

:D
I do think there is an element of truth to some of it though particularly this quote:

" After meeting former CIA director, US Army General David Petraeus and noting his “maniacal insistence on exercise”, Mr Carr introduces an anthropological theory.

He is in the elite of Americans: the lean Americans,” he writes. “Outside a circle of the ruling elite, nobody in America is lean anymore.” "

Should the thread title be changed to "slags off business class and fat yanks"

harvyk, this is 'nail on the head' stuff from you.

My back of the envelope estimate is that around 400,000 Australians are high frequency airline patrons.

The average number of domestic airline passenger trips in Australia per annum is a little above two - one return trip - so there must be an enormous percentage of the population who rarely or never fly, even if the arrival of TT, JQ and previous other airlines such as the two Compasses has reduced the percentage who have 'never flown' somewhat.

I have to say that he should be thankful that he can sit and watch a Wagner opera on SIA. Something sadly lacking on QF in my opinion.

I hope that wasn't tongue in cheek, though I suspect it might be. FWIW, I'm the Producer of filmed operas for Opera Australia. We make beautiful filmed operas that can happily stand shoulder to shoulder with any opera company in the world that makes these. And ours come with English subtitles. Qantas should buy them, they're a great showcase for Australian talent. But they don't.

Heh, don't get me started on the Met. They're a great company, but their contracts with cinemas are tighter than a tight thing. They've locked us out of most cinemas in Australia. Which is most unfair. The Australian national opera company can't get into most cinemas in its own country! Doubly ridiculous when you consider that it was Australian taxpayers' money that upgraded a lot of these cinemas to the digital technology that both we and the Met run on. The Met benefits, we don't.

Well that is a bit ridiculous as most cinemas don't screen the Met productions. You learn something every day.
