Bob Carr slags off business class

He says similar things to many who post here. And my guess is many here don't pay for their fares either. At least he appears to have a sense of humour. Oops, I forgot the sad tall poppy syndrome we tend to have.

Tall poppy my cough!

Anyone that puts these words in print - "concave abdomen defined by deep-cut obliques" or "Fuhrer" directions - is a total tool. This is nothing more than a pathetic attempt to flog books and whip up media interest.....no different than your average Bingle with the paparazzi ;)

I was always under the impression that Air Force Two is the callsign plane carrying the Vice President.

True. I was alluding to the fact that the US Secretary of State flies on Air Force planes which I am sure would have been Mr Carr's first preference whilst travelling overseas as Australia's equivalent, rather than having to slum it in commercial J.

As I pay for my J flights as well as contribute to the Mighty Bob's I guess I am allowed to be offended by his taking offence.;):D

Was quite a Carr fan during the NSW days but sadly this reflects someone who has become out of touch with the majority of the people he serves. I find it embarrassing as I assume there was no 'tongue in cheek' intended?

Actually looks like a good read, I suspect <hope> that a lot of it is actually tongue in cheek type stuff, for example I doubt he really believes he is the best chairman ever.

However I am saddened that an Intellectual Patron of the Arts needs subtitles for his Wagner, maybe the request was just for the benefit of other passengers. :)

The Hon Robert may have flown 'firrrst' and J but his musings show a distinct lack of class.

Quite disgusting arrogance. The current Foreign Minister does not brag like the Hon Robert. My guess is her expenses are a lot lower than His Carrnivorrrrrusss.

:D
I do think there is an element of truth to some of it though particularly this quote:

" After meeting former CIA director, US Army General David Petraeus and noting his “maniacal insistence on exercise”, Mr Carr introduces an anthropological theory.

“He is in the elite of Americans: the lean Americans,” he writes. “Outside a circle of the ruling elite, nobody in America is lean anymore.” "

Did this “maniacal insistence on exercise” involve his *cough* biographer Paula Broadwell?

I don't know whether there is such an animal as Air Force Two. Air Force One is the call sign used for whichever aircraft is carrying the president at the time. The spare or backup aircraft would have a call sign such as "Sam 29 thousand" until such time the President is onboard.

Oh dear. DYKWIA on steroi_s. Or rather DYKWIA on steel-cut oats and berries. It's not pretty, but I guess it can happen to anyone: too much of a good thing makes one take it for granted.

Air Force Two is indeed the call sign of any plane carrying the US Vice President unless the President is on board.

Bob Carr - arrogant pig!

I attended Anzac Day Dawn Service at Villiers Brettoneux last year.

Carr ( as Foreign Minister) was our representative.

Ceremony finished and 5000 Australians are all set to board their buses and move on. Freezing cold!

Not allowed to. Carr must leave first. The @hole took over an hour to have coffee with the other countries reps and then wanted to shake hands with every Australian on his way out.

90 minutes after the completion of the Dawn Service I'm still waiting for this @hole to leave so that we can leave. I was physically restrained from giving the idiot a piece of my mind.

And he was unhappy in J? WTF?

JB

That shows a lot about the (lack of) character of a supposed leader.
Thanks god (and the Aussie voters) that we got rid of him!

If people travelling business class for work are not allowed to critique said business class, this site may as well close up shop.

Exactly my thinking. If he's going away on business, representing Australia, he should be sent in a class that allows him to arrive in a manner that he could get on with the day.

This guy flew J on our expense. He has no right to complain, he should be grateful.
Most people who travel J are either self-funded or working for private companies.

He was !!! He flew J

But then service wasn't up to scratch, and I'm sure he left feedback. There's nothing wrong with that :p

So if you fly J on someone else's expense you're just meant to accept bad service when you see it? I'll agree, he might have slightly higher standards that he might be entitled to, but I'd expect anyone flying on someone else's dime to make sure they were getting the most of that dime.

Take for example, I buy you a ticket (not happening by the way) in F to LHR. You fly it, but they run out of PJ's and for some reason only stock one bottle of bubbly. I might have paid for you, but I'd be very annoyed if you didn't complain on my behalf, as I'm paying all this money and you're seeing very little of it.

At least, that's how I would see the issue.

At least Bobby Dazzler has written something that makes complete sense Bob Carr pushed Julia Gillard to adopt Coalition policies on asylum seekers

---------------------------------------------------------
On July 1, 2012, he called Ms Gillard's chief of staff, Ben Hubbard, to urge a change in policy on the issue.

“I favour constant movement on asylum seeker policy. Just do what Abbott proposes,” he writes.

“'Better than sitting still,' I say.”
-------------------------------------------------------------
Mr Carr later hails Mr Rudd's PNG solution as a “masterstroke”.

“He's going to take those Iranian queue jumpers and resettle them; not just process them, but resettle them in Papua New Guinea,” he writes when news of the policy, hatched by Mr Rudd, reached him.

At the subsequent cabinet meeting to approve the policy, Mr Carr was “the one minister to back him on principle”.

“I leapt in to say that this was the biggest threat to territorial integrity since WWII and that I agreed with Prime Minister's view that we needed to quickly demonstrate that people-smuggling would be defeated.”

Hmmm - visit Silicon Valley and see if you can jog and cycle around the Googleplex like the super-slim nerds do.

Oops, hang on, they are the 'ruling elite' ;):p.

If I would ever fly in a premium cabin on the taxpayer expense, I would be very grateful and extremely lenient with my feedback, same as I would do if I get a free upgrade. Something really bad need to happen during the flight, like the FA spilling hot tea over my head, to trigger a complaint from me.
Our leaders can learn a thing or two from the Pope about humility while in public service.

Some may find it interesting that not only has the current minister spent considerably less than the former minister over the same amount of time but she also flew a well recognised LCC (not Jetstar).[/QUOTE]

OMG... TIGER....?

Playground stuff if you ask me. The usual suspects are criticising a Labor politician, who I reckon has written a very readable diary. I bet he laughs all the way to the bank.
