BNE Airport tour (proposed when COVID allows) interest thread

Depending on the date, I might be interested in joining (Flying in OOL on Feb 11-14 and LST on Feb 25-28) if the time is right

All the best to your son for a quick recovery, and the rest of the family stay safe!
No such luck - my wife has come down with it as well. We're all double dosed so mild symptoms from son (2 days feeling unwell) and my wife sounds like she has laryngitis and a cold at the same time. Now quarantined until Tuesday

Sorry to hear that mate. Hope they recover quickly.

Let me know if you need anything while you’re locked down. Would be no trouble to swing by if you need the essentials restocked… Shiraz, Chardonnay etc.

I’m down to 4 reds but as Mrs QF WP can’t taste anythIng, I’m the only one drinking.

Have plenty at work to bring home - once I can get there

Hope it passes quickly the symptoms 🤞🏼

Perhaps now is the time to stock up on some bonus points at QF Wines? I'm seeing a 10,000 point offer for a 12 pack of reds for $300 which represents excellent fuel economy! 😅

Is this still happening? Would love to come if other participants have had boosters.

I'm now on Day 7 of my isolation and my daughter tested -IVE again today, so she's escaped quarantine and I should tomorrow. Really hit me for 6 this virus. Been unable to do anything, sucked the energy out of me. So, yes, it's still on but no, I haven't organised anything. I'll get around to it and when I do, this thread will be the second to know. Have a lead on an AFF'er who owns/ed a bus service here in Brisbane.

Hope you get better soon. We've got much of the year ahead of us, I have no doubts there will be many opportunities for us to get up close and personal with the birds at BNE. In particular, and those from BNE please correct me if I'm mistaken here, I suspect BNE will have way more interesting birds in 6 months time than they will now, especially as borders start to open up more and more and international carriers begin to realize that.

I think you are correct about there being more to see in six months.

Feel for you. We have been lucky not to experience a Covid infection - so far.
Hope you’re doing better.

You may, but having lived in Brisbane since 1957 aged 10, I have this to offer: sparrows and starlings (who occupied roofs), were rife.
Now there are no sparrows and no starlings. None
There are are no brown-winged kookaburras, sad to say.

QF WP, when you're better, may I suggest that you consider the original Brisbane Airport - now known as Archerfield Airport - as a place to visit? It has history oozing out of every rivet.

Well if we want to talk about aviation history in Queensland, I reckon there is no better place to start than the QF Founders Museum at Longreach. Indeed, they've got a number of packages available and I reckon they could probably organize something special for us if we're going as a group.

Doesn't seem too bad. Perhaps we could combine the two: do a BNE airport tour in the morning then fly out to Long Reach (stopping by the QF lounge of course) and attend that event. I'm not sure on return if there's a QF Lounge at Long Reach, perhaps we could fashion our own 🤣

And for those on a budget, ExpertFlyer is showing some saver award availability:

Flight usually leaves BNE in the morning and no lounge at LRE...

Yeah I noticed it's an 11 AM departure. Perhaps it's possible to get a tour 7 or 8 AM, then head over to the airport go through security, grab a drink at the lounge then board the flight. Also I forgot that I'll be in HNL on the 27th of May and I believe AFF is also hosting their annual gig at that time. So maybe a different time might work for everyone?
