Hi, i'm a lurker who has now joined up :D

i have a adl-mel-per flight booked on DJ for next week and was considering the blue zone add on for $45 as I don't get into Perth until 2240 and after a long day, so more room would be nice.

Having not flown on dj much before (and not in blue zone at all) i have two questions about the 737/738 experience to help me decide if i should pay extra or not. (I believe adl-mel is operated by e190)

1) Are the tray tables as normal in front or are they in the armrest thus effecting seat width?

2) Is the live2air screen on the seat back in front?

thanks everyone :)

on the 737 700 Blue zone is row 12
on the 737 800 Blue zone is row 15

all tray tables are in situated in the seatback in front of you

seatback TV screens are available in 737 700/800 only NOT embraer.

( be advised not all boeing aircraft are fitted with the live 2 air, so an mp3 player or book might be handy if it isnt configured)

there is NO inflight audio/video on the ejets.

Thank you very much ishkaban :)

I have flown on the E190 before, when they were first introduced into WA on an $18 promo fare trip up to Karratha and I loved it, beautiful aircraft.

Thank you for all the other info, I think Blue zone would be a good choice for some more room, especially since the seats aren't any narrower. I plan on taking my own entertainment on the plane!

cheers :D

When you get your BP's, check the exit row position while still at check in, ensure that DJ have actually provided you the blue zone seating.

I have in the past not done this on MEL/SYD or BNE (can't remember) and got to my plane to find all exit row seats taken and I was a couple of rows back. To frustrate matters, the FA's were typically DJ useless when it comes to anything other than serving drinks or cracking weak jokes during the "serious" safety announcements, that I ended up writing off the BZ additional costs.

The e-Jets - what a great plane, I wish the real airline in Australia flew them ;)

BTW, I don't envy you MEL/PER on DJ - or any LCC for that matter - mind you, DJ dont regard themselves as a LCC anymore do they - I wonder what they new catch phrase for DJ is...

Ahh I've done more than enough transcontinental flights in Y, including plenty on the red eye

Well used to it by now!

But I much prefer using QF, it's just that on this occasion I booked pretty late, missed the sale fares, and QF were asking just too much for me to justify. The cheapest way was the connecting flight, both to Melbourne from Perth and also from Adelaide to Perth (Flying QF from Melbourne to Adelaide)

And thanks for the tip, I will make sure I get booked into blue zone seating

Well arent you a lucky one, even if your WP status got it for you :p

Have done J once to Sydney from Perth on int'l 744 when Per was used as a stopover from jnb, it was an awesome experience (esp since i was quite young at the time :D)

A term often employed here for DJ is that they are a "New Age Carrier"

I have been lucky enough to do PER/MEL in First Class.

Once was where I paid the fare difference between the B (by work rule fare) and F (it was about $150 in the mid 90's) and another time was a "double" upgrade where I was op-upped on check-in from Business class after using an "Upgrade Certificate" to get to business from economy in the first place.

If I fly Virgin to Perth from the East Coast then for me I think Blue Zone is a great investment for $45, with QF I can be a bit for tactical with my seating with the aim to get a good seat, especially if there are two travelling , middle seats in the middle of the plane tend to be unpopular.

If you're even in the NT Airnorth use the E90 DRW/KNX/BME return & also on the DRW/DIL run.

Had the pleasure of flying DIL/DRW on TL509 last year when my usual mode of transportation had a tail strike. Only a short 1hr 10mins & the thing climbs like a rocket!

Cheers

And they use the E170 on the much unpublicised DRW-OOL run, at $150 its not a bad option to get to SE QLD and timings are good, much better than a midnight departure.

Oops finger twubble or just a blonde moment but both TL's Embraer jets VH-ANO & VH-ANV are in fact Embraer170's.

A friend was booked on their OOL-ISA-DRW flight last Thu but one of the jets broke down so they had to wait for their other one to finish it's flight before using that.

Due to curfew at OOL, pax had to be sent to BNE by bus instead with TL departing at 2300 ish getting into DRW at 0300 some 11 hours late.

Good for those folk who need direct transportation ISA/DRW though.

No worries - one is actually an E170 AR and was the first "advanced range" operating in the world. At $150 each way and nice timings I am seriously considering them for my next DRW trip, beats QFs daily flight on $$$ and JQ's terrible alternative. If I do go I will actually do a TR, and it will be soon, I am keen to get back up to DRW as I always enjoy the trips.

I was not aware of the OOL-DRW option until late last year when I saw vision of an accident at OOL and their was an Air North E170 taxining in the background, it got my attention!

Hey there Must Fly!

I have flown Pacific Blue Brisbane to Bali on a 737 800 in a blue zone seat. There were no seat back screens on the flight over. Only the FA playing trivial pursuit - glad I took a good book. The return flight did have the screens.

I think paying the extra $ for blue zone seats is worth it BUT as MunitalP has said check your BP. Hubby and I arrived 3 hours before departure for check in and were handed BPs in Row 14.

Hhmm doesn't he know I am a AFF lurker and ishkaban had previously mentioned that Row 15 is the exit row. There site also states that although Row 14 is an exit row the seats to not recline therefore are not sold as blue zone seats.

I asked nicely if we could have Row 15 to which he replied that someone had already requested this row. OK but haven't I paid extra for these seats. New BPs for Row 15 issued. A bit sneaky I thought.

Thankyou AFF - I am learning something new every day.

Virgin dont have live to air available on aircraft they dont own, so some aircraft (namely the pacific blue ones) do not feature the PTV, although I did see one Pacific Blue marked aircraft with the hump in Perth last month.
