BETTER AND MORE TIMELY INFORMATION FOR LOCAL AIRPORT COMMUNITIES

Residents living around the nation's busiest airports can now see in near 'real time' the exact location of inbound and outbound flights as well as the noise being emitted by those aircraft.

The information is available on the new WebTrak site - www.airservicesaustralia.com/webtrak - which I officially launched today at Sydney's Kingsford Smith Airport.

Did anyone watch the news report?

I have some sympathy for people born under the flight path before traffic increased but there were people - young people who were complaining about the noise and how it impacted their baby - c'mon people if bought under an existing flight path then you cant complain.

This cost $20 million - that would pay for 400 teachers for a year and instead we are wasting money on this.

This is an absolute disgrace by the NSW govt - AGAIN.

Wow, that's lousy for a website that basically shows info they already have.

This appears to be Lochard [yes an Australian Company] trying to develop a new revenue stream vis-a-vis selling passive noise monitoring systems to airports, leveraging what they do on a 'real time' basis.

Whilst it records noise at various monitors, it is also a big call that they can accurately identify the acoustic impact 'where you live' from particular aircraft because they have no way to allow for the atmospheric / built structure influence on the propogation of the noise.

Air Services Australia launch Airtrak service

Residents living near eight of Australia's busiest airports - including Sydney - will be able to monitor noise levels of flights.

Resembling Google Earth, the $20 million WebTrak will allow users to track the flight paths of every aircraft within 55 kilometres of a selected airport, giving them information on the noise level, overhead height, distance, and type of planes in the air.

But security concerns will mean the information feed will not be live, but delayed for 40 minutes.

The site itself is available at Airservices Australia - Aircraft Noise - WebTrak Locations and - despite the delay is way fun!

Just need to figure out how to make it my wallpaper on my PC now...
