Best seats economy A380?

Serfty, would you advise going for 36J/K over 71D or 80A? How is the tilting angle for the 36J/K seats? Thanks.

Depends what your priority is - 36J/K is good for privacy / relatively low noise / not much disturbance. 71D/80A/80K win for legroom though whereas 36J/K have standard legroom.

Can someone please comment on seat 70E on a QF A380 - Seatexpert suggests it is wider and Seatguru suggests narrower? Anybody know for sure? Is it a better than average seat?
cheers
Pagan

Has anyone sat in seats 33J & 33K on the upper deck on QF93 & QF12? Currently have these reserved for my wife and I for the 29th Sept and 1st Nov. Any suggestions for better available seats on these flights?

As far as I know it is standard width seat only difference is that there is no D Seat due this being the location of the crew rest area emergency exit

If you look very closely at the QF seat map PDF you can see that 70EFG all look a tad narrower. But who knows if it's an 'artist's impression' or directly from the engineering drawings ?

I would think that depending on 71D pax's height and propensity to extend their legs over the trap door you might have some more lateral room to your left in 70E.

The issues we Y sardines have to stress over !!

On another matter, having sat in two exit row door-side seats (66A and 79J) in recent weeks I can say that they were damn cold. There was definitely an air leak through the door gap. Made sleeping difficult, and having paid exta for the seats I felt somewhat cheated. Having travelled in many 747 exit rows over 20 years, these were considerably colder.

I didn't find 66A any colder than any other seat, however I prefer to be cooler rather than hotter. No noticeable breeze though.

So I am booking a UK wedding trip for next year, and having lost my WP1 I can't get the exit rows anymore (well, not without paying biscuits). Mrs_Gimlet doesn't really care about the space, so I was planning on 80A/B. However, I do like the quiet upstairs cabin - what do you all reckon in terms of seat room vs quietness? (36J/K only available coming back)

Presumably you are now SG given the availability of seating.

If 80AB/JK are available now, take them and think about other options later.

Wow, there is such a raft of information and varying opinions here its almost overwhelming!!
I have a flight coming up in November to LA on QF11 with wife and 2 kids. I have paid for 2 x exit row seats. Currently selected 66J&K + 2 seats in row 67 behind. I am able to select most other exit seats at this stage with the exception of row 48 (as there are no available seats for kids behind) I can also select from row 35DEF upstairs. My reading here is that upstairs is preferred although some caution on row 35 due to 'traffic' tripping over ones feet. Anyone got any suggestions to help me make up my mind...

SHame the J/K seating in 35 and 36 was not available - then the four of could have had "your own" pocket of seats.

If you take 35 DEF, where would the additional person be seated?

I suggest you stay where you are, 66J&K are very good seats.

Thanks for your reply Serfty, sounds like I might be best sticking with what I've got. If I took the row 35 seats, there are seats available in front in row 34DEF. What do you think about taking the 2 single seats in row 79HJ and then 2 seats in row 80?

How is the legroom for 32A&B on the upper deck compared to 23J&K on the QF23/24 A330-300?

I flew the latter recently and felt a bit cramped so if the former is similar in legroom I may opt for something else.

79H is a poor exit seats as people coming down the aisle tend to blunder through the curtain into the feet of the occupant (same with 79C).

I experienced the upper deck economy for the first time and have some comments. I was seated in 35D – exit row, near the lavatory. Travelled LAX-SYD

My opinions are mixed on it. Probably the LAX boarding ruining the whole thing for me but here are my observations:

  • LAX boarded Platinums etc first. I was just a Silver so no early boarding for me.
  • The boarding announcements at the gate were not good unless you were right near the gate. If you were sitting on the opposite side or down further, you would have no chance hearing anything. The acoustics in the new terminal make it hard, along with pre-recorded messages that are played over the PA to the entire terminal on a regular basis.
  • Then they boarded by rows starting from the back. It took forever to call all rows and didn’t call rows 32 to 36 separately or explain you had to go upstairs.
  • Once I got to my seat, I realised I should have just got on when the first economy was called. The majority of people were already onboard – and it looks like they weren’t even enforcing the rules. Mistake noted for next time
  • I also noticed that there were a few instances where Americans were being pulled up for their baggage being too big and then getting into heated arguments. Maybe they should just sight the carry on at check in to avoid that situation.
  • Since it was an exit row, I had no choice but to stow my bag. Of course the one above me and nearby were already full or the bin was so small. My bag ended up a few rows away.
  • I wasn’t even the last to board so the flight attendant spent many minutes with each person spending time finding a bin. Many ended up in the W cabin. I feel for the crew in this area, they must have to deal with this everytime for this cabin.
  • 95% of people didn’t go to the lav via the exit row – they did use the passage near the galley. That was my one concern but they were pretty good with that.
  • I didn’t recline my seat (personal choice) so it did allow people in the row behind me to squeeze through the gap between the seat and the wall that is there
  • While the lavatory was close and there was the curtain, I wasn’t disturbed that much but if you are sensitive to that (and people waiting for the lav just before landing forming a queue), the other side of the cabin might be better.

It got me thinking that they really should call people with exit rows or bulkheads to board first as they have to stow bags – they do this on US carriers I have noticed, which is a good idea.

So would I book seats in the cabin again – probably but I would disregard the boarding announcements and just board early to make sure my bag ended up near me.

I do agree with this. When I left Dubai last weekend they made a call for one section, then never bothered to call the rest of the plane. Knowing I needed to put my bags up, I lined up anyway and had no trouble getting my bag into the overhead. However the other two ladies in the exit row were amongst the last to board and their bags had to be put in a number of rows much further away.

Thanks for that. Redroo - maybe this could be something that is mentioned to the powers that be. Maybe not for every international flight but for the A380 flights, I think this is something that needs to happen.

We have 35J/K QF127 and QF128 depart HKG Sat. return week later, be interesting, will report back.

Just booked trip to Europe, and return back on QF2 from Dubai. Have too many choices 32A/K 80A/K all available, I think I'm leaning towards 32A as I think it might be a bit more private. Just a question does Upper deck Economy load via the lower deck?

Also mentioning sitting on the side without the sun shining through. Departing Dubai at 0935, I'm thinking that the K side of the plane would probably be the best, I will likely be awake for the duration of the flight and like to look out so sunny side would be a bad idea. Am I right that at the start of the flight the sun would be on the left and as we get further South we start heading more and more towards the East meaning the sun stays pretty much on the left hand side most of the way?
