Best seats economy A380?

Hi all,

Thoughts on front of Y in 48A vs upper deck on 33DorG?

Thanks

Serfty thanks for sharing the link (and medhead for the pic taken) you have rested my mind for my flight this Friday :)
Note that only the centre arm rest (between E and F seats) can be raised. The other (between D & E, and between F & G) are fixed.

Back from my trip of QF1 and 2.
SYD - DXB 36K - the good - window, upper deck, storage bin, no one behind you and good for couples, the bad - as a single I had to ask the lady beside me to move for toilets but anyone sitting on the aisle expects that.

DXB - LHR 35K - the good - legroom, the bad - no window or bin, tiny overhead locker, exit row so your tv has to be folded up for longer

LHR - SYD 80A - the good - window, legroom, the bad - as for 35K plus very noisy/bright as near to galley, and on a half empty plane the centre armrest has the TV etc and cant fold up and allow you to stretch.

And does anyone know why you have to go through 3 lots of security and waste 40 mins at DXB to get back on exactly the same plane???
Why not a transfer room?

I'm not sure what happened here, but there are a few security points for connecting passengers. No need to be screened more than once (except if flying to Australia with the additional LAG screening at the gate).

Good summary, thanks for reporting back

Sorry it was a bit blurry. What did you think of the seats?
Very happy with the seats, more room than I expected. Used my cabin bag as a foot rest so managed a couple of hours sleep. Crew between SYD and DBX were outstanding. Put in an upgrade request on the way home, will see what happens! Thanks again for sharing as I was very close to changing my seats.

Just called the Plat team to see if I could get some better seats on QF9 on 02/09 in case my upgrade doesn't come through. Agent I spoke to was in New Zealand, with a very strong accent (Non Kiwi). He asked If I would like a Bulk Head seat and offered me 52 A B or C. I queried him and he assured me that these seats where bulk head with extra leg room.

I asked if it was normal to place frequent flyers next to the baby Seats as per 52D and he said he wasn't aware that it was a Baby seat area.

But wait it gets worse he offered me 36D as being nice quiet seat. I am sure you can imagine my Horror hence I politely educated him about that seat and he did ask why do they sell it :D

If only the premium number went to the premium and experienced staff.

Has Qantas changed its seating arrangement in its A380 since I last flew one? lol :D

Considering that QF only operates one config of the A380 it's very hard to understand how poorly trained their staff are regarding best vs worst seats. I recently called to pay the $180 for 35K (didn't work online) and the agent told me that the legroom would be restricted because of the door...I told him no it's not (he then apparently confirmed with a colleague that 35K is a very good seat).

52A/B/C are not bulkhead seats. If I recall Y used to start at 50A/B/C on the original configs and now certainly starts at 48.

Just wanted to report back that our flight on A380 upper deck, seats 36j and k was great. The quietness of the upper deck, service, cosiness of the two seats together, window, large storage bin and flexibility to walk downstairs made it a much more enjoyable trip than the return flight in seats 59 f and g. I'll be saving my FF points for next time now to ensure I can have a good chance of getting seats on upper deck economy on both legs, or better!
Thanks all again for the feedback re: seats 36 j and k.

Good to hear of your positive experience Chris. Did you notice any IFE boxes underneath the seat infront?

I'm flying QF93 to LAX in October with the Mrs and it'll be our first time on an A380. Neither of us have status and initially I was able to select 35 J & K on the upper deck (for the extra $$) and there were a few other options up top but while we thought about it over a few days to work out what we were going to do, these seats changed to unavailable so we decided to book 80 J & K. She pops a Phenergen and sleeps through anything, whilst I can almost never sleep on a plane maybe that's because I'm 6'2 and have only ever travelled Y. Would have loved to go upstairs but its gone for both our flight there and return but I'll keep an eye out on if these open up closer to the date.

New to forum and hoping for advice. Am currently booked in 48A and 66G on round-trip Qantas A380 flights to/from LAX & MEL. I've sorted through this and other threads, checked SeatGuru, etc., and have come up with very mixed reports on these seats. Would be very grateful for any first-hand info on:

- Leg room in 48A (does the exit door intrude into PAX space?)
- Leg room in 66G (definitely appears to be more knee room, but is it possible to stretch legs out fully without hitting bulkhead? Am 6'1"/185cm)
- Bathroom noise/smell in 66G (I know this seat is adjacent to crew quarters, and I can sleep happily with eye-cover and earplugs -- my big concern is strong bathroom/air-freshener smell. Any experience with that in this plane?)

Thanks in advance!

anyone been in 70E, Seatexpert claims it is a bigger seat and obviously have aisle access/?

Little cowling issues at 48A - cowling is somwhat forward.

There's a stairway access to rhe crew rest in front of 66G/H - the crew rest is actually underneath with the emergency exit beside 70E. You are actually somewhat protect from toilet odours there.

Thank you serfty! This is helpful. Will stick with 66G and follow up on my experience after the flight -- in case others have the same concern re: bathroom odors, etc.

Biggest issue with 66G is the staff movement and light as they open and close the door to get to the crew rest area. Have never had toilet issues when in seat 66D. Personally I would avoid 66G.
