What is the best seat to try and get for a QF 737-400 series aircraft?

I always try and get either 4C or 4D on the 737-800. Is there anything comparable with the 737-400 series aircraft (extra legroom behind biz class).

thanks

Chucksta

Row 4 in a 737-400 doesn't have the same legroom as in the 800. If you want extra legroom you'll need to go for the exit rows - 11 & 12 in the 400, 13 & 14 in the 800. You can't book them on-line, you just have to get there early enough.

Must add that this applies to Qantas - don't know about Virgin, never flowm them.

Actually for Qantas 734's (not Jetconnect), the first 5 rows have convertible seating with Domestic J pitch.

Aside from some routes/flights (mainly to/from CBR and PER) they are normally configured with the first three rows as J with rows 4 & 5 WHY. Even row 6 has slightly more pitch than the remaining non-exit seats.

So, in this case 4C, 4D, 5C and 5D are quite desirable.

Here's a link to a Qantas .pdf of the seat map:

DJ don't operate any 400 series, they use 700 series from memory.

As per serfty's comments, row 4 in my experience is quite a desireable seat to have (and in actual fact it was flying on these aircraft that where my forward preference originally derived - trying to get in row 4 or 5 :) )

They used to have some -300 and I think some -400 when they first started, but these all came off lease and have been replaced by NGs as -700 and -800 models.

I prefer if I can get 4C or 4D on QFs 737 aircraft but I am happy with any aisle seat in the first few rows.

734 - 4C=4D=5D=5C > 6C=6D > 7C=7C=8C ...
73H - 4C=4D > 5C=5D=6C=6D=7C=7C=8C ...
