Hi Guys,

I have managed to pick up the best J class seats to sit in, but I was wondering about economy?

I am travelling on QF107 to LAX then JFK and back on QF108 JFK to LAX then SYD, all booked as separate sectors and therefore different seats. The aircraft is a 744. The QF system has automatically allocated me 36K, 35K, 35K and 36K respectively.
Does this sound like a good seat selection or should I change. The main thing I was concerned about is the 36K not having full recline because of the FA's jump seat behind me??? I've had a quick look at seatguru but it doesn't seem to help.

I think I might avoid the exit rows as I like a window, and when I had the exit rows on NZ's 747, I lost the legroom anyway because of the door? It also seems to be noisy with the bathrooms.

Can you give me some thoughts and share your experiences?

For a start I do not like 36K (&36A) on 744-er's (64J config) while showing as a window seat, there is actually a wall beside you and limited views forward. If the PAX in seat 35K reclines you have no view at all.

Look at this seat map: Boeing 747-438ER

Of course, 46/58 A/K exit row seat should be avoided as well due to the life-raft/escape-slide cowling at the base of the doors.

If you like a window seat, perhaps go down the back to 70 A/K.

Hmmm. I have been allocated 35H LHR-HKG on QF128 and 26H MEL-LAX on QF25 (I think this is only 2 class flight) which look like good economy seats.

Yes, I have recently flew SYD/BKK/LHR on QF 1 (14F/50Y/315Y configuration) and had been pre-allocated 35H for the whole journey. This was an excellent seat, given there are the crew rest seats ahead of you and hence they very rarely (if at all) are reclined at any time during the flight. I enjoyed this seat so much that I have requested in my upcoming trips once again to HKG and LHR later this year.

I don't know whether my eyes were imagining things, but I felt this row seemed to have just a little more room than the average economy seat.

Me, the missus and 5 year old are on QF175 BNE to LAX in 28 J,H&K.

I'm pretty sure I've identified the bird we're on correctly as a 747-400 - 2 class.

Seatguru's telling me - "...this row is missing a window".

Missing a window....?!?!? Really....?!

I'm wondering weather what they really mean is it's one where you might be a bit obscured if the seat in front is reclined.......but a whole window?

Anyone familiar with this one?

Some QF 25 services will be operated by 743's during the middle of the year so check your booking. It has a different layout of course.

The onlyreal difference between 744 and 743 for economy passengers is that the 743 does not have AVOiD. The 743 has the old loop system personal IFE installed. At least it is reliable. The seats are the same.

All economy seats on QF 744 aircraft have the same recline action. There are no seats with limited recline on QF 744 aircraft.

Conversely, I thought that all the economy seats had limited recline... I cant get any of them to go horizontal :)

:D Believe it or not, they charge about 8 times what I paid for those- and they're only 3 rows in front. Wonder if someone will offer to swap seats? ;) After all, it's only a bit more food and another 70 degrees on recline. Not giving up much! ;)

Qantas' seat maps do show where the window are located, or not; on a recent booking I was allocated 36A on a 64J 744 config. Guess what, it's a wall - if 35A reclines then NO view.

Check here: 744 2 Class Seat Map(.pdf)In your case, 'tis similar, except maybe 28 has a bit more window access.

Yes the seats the same but the layout is different. 26H on the 2 class 744 is a good position in the little 'private cabin' behind biz and is aisle bulkhead. Some people like this spot.

I am not sure. My itinerary for 6 August says 747-400 so I am guessing, praying, this will be the aircraft used.

That is the one. I think I can handle 14+ hours in this mini cabin with seat 26H.
