Deal. Please also suss out a great traditional curry place because we have found some very awful ones in the UK.
You want to visit Brummy in that case, lots of decent places in the Balti triangle of the Midlands.

Am sure we can find something decent in London though! Not so sure about Scouserville ;)

There's Dishoom of course, but it's pricey for what it is. It is quite nice though. It's quite a wait to get in too.

The best Indian I have tasted anywhere in my travels was in the only takeaway (a fish and chip shop) in the village below Airth Castle in Scotland. Outstanding food and cheap but obviously no white table cloth service.

We have some stellar takeaways around us. I love the fact that in a <2 miles radius I have about 45 options for a curry. Perhaps we should branch this out into another thread.......

Perfect. We want to drive around Scotland. But a fish and chip shop? 😂

I agree! Birmingham and the North-west (Manchester/Liverpool) will get you much better places than London! Having tried about 7 or 8 different places in London, I think Dishoom is definitely the best here. Really cool vibe too - even though it is on the pricey side.

Sons in Laws family come from near Manchester (Wirral). The wedding party took the trip across the Mersey on the ferry of course. We loved Liverpool when we were there exactly 2 years ago for their wedding. We loved the Beatles so no wonder I guess.

I can see we are going to have to spend a lot of time eating curries. We had one curry near St Pancras station. God it reminded me of the slop my granny used to call curry. Run by Indian people but suspect they thought that tourists wouldn't know any better.

I still find it odd in the UK where I consider the home of fish and chips, you still come across a lot of places that have the fish cooked and sitting under the heat lamp. I don't think I've ever seen that in Oz

Indeed, I don't know of many places that do cook to order like I'm used to from Australia.

I recall that in the UK in 1976/77 we came across very few good fish and chip shops This was a big surprise to us. But I think that decade was pretty much the nadir of British cookery.

As an aside, I have mentioned a while ago that we lived near Southall then and thus had access to great "Indian" food there. I wonder if Southall is still a good destination for curries etc?

Vinomofo is the best wine deals site on the planet. Good wines, real people and epic deals, without all the bowties and bs.

My fave Indian curry restaurant in London in Cafe Spice in Prescott Street, near Tower Hill tube station. It's unlike most Indian restaurants in that the food is more aromatic and their menu is unlike the pretty standard Indian curry menu that we see everywhere else. It is fully licenced, but it's not a cheap curry house. For example, their Beef Tikka uses fillet of aged scotch beef chargrilled to medium-rare.
