Re: Benifits of Platinumb Membership

Off topic but as a QF Silver I find that I almost always get my preferred seating option!
This seems to be true on international sectors.

However on QF domestic sectors, Bronze, Silver and Gold FFs are unlikely to get the seats they want. We've discussed this before - my standard pref is "forward aisle" yet I never get this even on a 763 in whY where there are 4 aisle seats per row. I do get an aisle seat, but it's always way down the back in the rear cabin. I recently changed my pref to forward window to see if there is any difference but I've only flown DJ and O7 since then. With regards to the latter, there are no bad seats! Fly OzJet! :wink:

I generally get a forward seat (I'm WP) but I usually ask for a seat in the far back and ask to block th enext next to it. If the plane is not full I get to stretch out a bit onto the empty seat next to me.

This of course can backfire. Last week I was flying back to Melbourne from Sydney and the flight before and after me was cancelled. My once empty and blocked seat was filled by a large person and looking at the nice seat I gave up (24F) on the newer QF plane I realised I gave up a seat with no one in front of of me:

23D 23E [SPACE]
24D 24E 24F

Doh!

The real benefits I've made use of are the guarranteed eco seat (I've used it about 7 times in the past 4 months) and I just booked my first OneWorld Award and basically had no problems getting a seat on any flight (I know SG gets this bonus as well).

Due to CXs reputation for possible OPUPs I've booked a few flights with them in this award hopefully I might get a free upgrade :wink:

As a WP I usually get my perference (forward window) but I know alot of WP & SG who struggle getting good forward aisle. I'm assuming this is because of Chairman members and the high number of WP all going for forward aisle.

Unfortunately this will probably be my last WP year given I'm going on award travel for 5.5 months and I won't be doing much (work) travel straight after. I assume I'll be dropped first back to SG, I'm going to miss the seat guarrantee :(

Well I was thinking about that back in seat 50F. :-|

Hmm, I don't recall seeing 50F noted under any aircraft type in my favourite seat thread :cry: .

I've just realised that I will re-qualify for Gold next month. My FF anniversary date is 30 Nov, so with OzJet now gone there is a reasonable chance that I will make it to WP for the first time this year. :shock: :roll:

have a mate who just made QF platinum and the first thing he did was call QF and asked whether he was allowed to access QF lounge when not flying with QF out of AKL.

he didn't specify to QF whether it was a NZ domesic or international, but doesn't QF's answer goes against the statement NM had made earlier?

<QUOTE>
Also, as a QF Platinum FF member you can use the Qantas Club lounges any time, even when not flying
</QUOTE>

is the use of club lounge while not flying with them specified in the platinum booklet? i can't locate that statement on QF website...

thx in advance for any suggestions...

NO!

That's because the information is is not directly available through qantas.com. However, there is a page where this information exists; you will need to record and enter the direct URL to access it: Lounge Access at a glance

thanx a million serfty!!

i did notice the fine print at the bottom of the page:

"Due to operational reasons, member access to Qantas Clubs and associated lounges may, from time to time, be restricted. See Terms and Conditions."

so QF lounge deagons can refuse a plat entry based on that disclaimer i suppose

i did follow the thread that described what that happened last time when a gathering had planned at sydney domestic lounge!

The quote is similar in meaning to the one on the page:
http://www.qantas.com.au/info/flying/qantasClub/benefits . It is the last sentence under the Invite a Guest heading.

Platinum Frequent Flyers and their guest are welcome in the lounge, even when not travelling on Qantas, Australian Airlines or British Airways.

As a QF Platinum member for many years, I have exercised this benefit many times, and I have never had anything other than a warm welcome to the lounge.

Agreed. At Intl lounges they often scan your BP for whatever airline you are flying, and apologise for not being able to call your flight. I've done this in MEL flying on EK, NZ & SQ, in AKL flying EK and at the SIN FCL when flying SQ & Silkair (which even operate out of a different terminal). Nothing but the warmest of welcomes.
