The World MasterCard from BankWest earns points. Coles Flybuys card comes with no fees and earns flybuys points (which are transferable to Etihad). Those are the only other two available that I'm aware of

Hmm ok thanks. I've been happy with 28 degrees for a while. Maybe bankwest is worth it for a few Qantas points. I've got a fair bit if USD spend coming up

I paid some SQ taxes on Bankwest World yesterday where 1456.90 SGD became 1430.10 AUD. I think if I had used Westpac Kris Flyer Amex it would have been about 50 to 70 AUD more.
Saving some dollars can be important when paying international charges and we do get a point a dollar to QF anyway.

What I meant was that some hotels reserve the right to pre-authorise a stay a few days before arrival. Has only happened twice that I can remember in the last 15yrs or so. The issue being that if the CC you booked against fails the pre-auth, then the booking may be cancelled leaving you in the lurch if it is a busy time of year. So if I don't use the CC that was used for the booking process (in my case an AMEX) for general transactions while away, it keeps it clean so to speak.

I have my Bankwest MC as a primary for travel which earns QF points, and a 28Degress MC as a backup, both of which do not charge FX fees. And if for some reason the AMEX is used, I get Velocity points.

I thought that was a pretty good deal and so I applied on-line.
In the section about other credit cards, it asked if I intended to keep the other card and I clicked "No".
Anyhow, it said I was approved, but I had to send them evidence of income.

That's new isn't it? They used to earn points OS as well (and the description on the website at the moment still doesn't mention that in exclusions.

Yes, I noticed people talking here in the past like one could earn points on overseas transactions, so I checked the terms and conditions which had foreign exchange purchases as being excluded.

I interpret this as buying foreign notes / currency as opposed to buying / paying things in non Australian currency, the latter earning Qf points. Correct me if I'm wrong

Looking at a statement from when I had the platinum card, foreign purchases (IHG in USD, BA in GBP) appeared to accrue points as at - January 2015.

I hope you are right and that Bankwest are using unusual phrasing.

When I check out exchange rates I go to xe.com who refer to themselves as a "Currency authority" and if I want to but foreign money at Amex they phrase it as "Buy foreign currency". So, I'd have expected Bankwest to exclude "Foreign Currency Purchases" if that was what they meant.

Anyhow, I'll ask Bankwest to confirm what they mean, though it is good to see all the other responses here indicating that your interpretation is the correct one.
