Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

BankWest is a business name of Commonwealth Bank. Ian Narev has "worst day of my life" comment that we repeat in our home to identify that we are talking about CBA.

What do you mean by acted unreasonably?

Betty my concern is with when the accrued points transfer. Most banks transfer at the 1 month mark, I know of no others that take 4 statement cycles just for the initial accrued points to transfer.

By 'unreasonably' I mean that the transfer is unnecessarily delayed as compared to other banks and if they want to do it this way then Bankwest need to take positive actions to inform customers of these unusual provisions. Simply posting them in material accessed by a hyperlink online or sending them via the post with your card isn't sufficient and occurs too late in the contract formation process. There is definitely relevant law on the topic of online contract formation in this area and its in my favour.

I haven't yet brought out the big guns but after I get the bonus points if I don't at least get a pro-rata refund of the annual fee I'll be directing them to some decided cases on contract formation and some other literature including some relevant books and articles on the matter - some of which I either authored or co-authored.

I also continue to strongly recommend that others contact Bankwest via their online messaging system and state that they believe that taking over 3 months to post accrued points is unreasonable and provides dissatisfaction to the point where you are compelled to move to another bank that treats you in a more favourable manner. It will only take a few minutes of your time and will create real pressure on Bankwest to act.

I'm intrigued. Can you provide some more information?

Received a fairly standard response from BW telling me that how they allocate points is set out in their terms. My reply indicated that these terms were provided AFTER the contract was formed. Still building a case for a refund of the fee after the bonus points post and will use these emails as part of my case that they mislead me about when points would post and have acted unreasonably.

For people reading who are thinking of applying, are you saying that the terms were not available during any part of the application process? Unbelievable!

No, I'm saying that they were provided too late. That is via a hyperlink and/or the CD which arrived in the mail. The contract was formed before this time, therefore the terms cannot be incorporated into the contract.

Oh, so they were only provided after the application was approved?
Someone posted the relevant link which looks to be freely available to the public - whether there was any reference to that during the application process and before application approval is unknown to me..

All Bankwest credit card holders to be charged $1.25 per paper statement from 28th Nov.
(I'm a current cardholder who received an email with this today)

Asked in branch if they had any exemptions and was given a very flat no response from two staff. Will try calling up to see if call centre has more knowledge. I find it quite frustrating for a card that's $160 to then cheekily be charged potentially another $15 a year.

I thought Credit Card contracts were accepted by activating the card or using it the first time? You can back out anytime until then?

200,000 QF point cap each year so you could put $400,000 on this card to get to the cap.

First regular points from BankWest posted to my QFF account.

I am upgrading to World CC. It is $220 and you need to get ok'd by Bankwest. I did that by phoning the 1300 number and then making an appointment at the local branch. The form was easy (compared to Qudos).
Your Platinum card needs to have a minimum credit limit of $12,000 to be eligible for the upgrade. You get an uncapped points earning card earning 0.66 points per dollar and fair international exchange rates. Mrscove already has this card so I have watched how well it has worked.

Worth trying to negotiate to getting it without it changing your annual fee (it worked for me, back when you did it by form online). Also, it may alter your membership year to restart.

Once my 50K pts post, I will follow in master cove's footsteps :)

I had an interesting experience when upgrading to the World card. I had the platinum card for 2+ years ($99 annual fee) and wasn't offered the upgrade (Limit 20k at that time). I applied via the "special invite" online link which offered the same annual fee as platinum and received the card for $220.

I thought it wasn't worth the fee so I cancelled it within 2 weeks. I then changed my mind 2 months later and rang BW to give me the card again. This time the card came with a $99 annual fee. So kept it for ATO and overseas.
