Pretty simple to read and understand the insurance policy before leaving and know what you are are are not covered for really.

It is (relatively) simple to read a contract and take a view on what it says.

What that contract means in practice is a different matter.

Clauses like "at our discretion" or "we may" are interesting clauses and the practical implementations of these sometimes do not match what we think they should.

It's one thing reading and understanding, but how many people here would have known that the scenario here would not be covered? How many people here would even have thought about the scenario?

To me it was fairly clear, but the T&C's have not been posted for the insurance policy that is being discussed here so that makes it a little hard  Going off the Platinum T&C's "3. Luggage delay checked on Scheduled Flight If Your accompanying luggage checked on the Scheduled Flight is not delivered within six (6) hours of Your arrival at the scheduled destination point of Your flight, We will reimburse You for the emergency purchase of essential clothing and requisites up to AUD700 incurred at such scheduled destination"

So to me it's quite clear.

As for thinking about the scenario involved, I wouldn't have thought of that one! But a quick read of the T&C's and I would have been happy to pay for anything I needed, but would have pushed the airline hard for some compensation.

That is not the issue on this one the wording is clear "scheduled destination"

The VERY interesting insurance policy from Allianz "and in our opinion it was reasonable for you to purchase essential items of clothing or other personal items."

That is one insurance policy I would NOT take up as it is very vague!!!

...and maybe it should have been clear to AXA. They could have said early in the piece that it was not covered, rather than asking for more documentation.
