Hello flyers. 2 questions that I'd appreciate your opinions about. With the choice to go Sin-Syd-Sin with QF or BA - who would you choose? Bear in mind I really don't like Qantas AT ALL bu is BA better? Plus, will I earn the same FF points on my Qantas FF if I go BA? Thanks in advance!

Just before we leap in - will it be business class or economy? Do you plan to sleep or watch TV? What time of day will you be travelling?

Good questions. Economy class. Overnight flight down and the afternoon slot (3pm) back home to Singapore, gets in about 10pm.

Thanks.

I finished an economy RTW trip at the beginning of this year (late Jan - early March). I flew on Qantas codeshare flights. For two of the legs, i flew BA. IT WAS AWFUL. I don't agree with the mandatory online check in (which we were unable to access due to having booked with qantas) - as a result we were given some of the worst seats on a full plane LHR to Hong Kong- and we were some of the first to check in at the airport) and found the service and conditions of the planes to be awful.
Whilst flying from JFK to LHR, we were delayed at JFK for 4 hours and not told anything. The panels under the windows in the plane were unsecured - i could see wires and felt a cold breeze on my feet the entire time.
Having flown qantas SYD to LAX and HK to SYD, my partner and I both agreed that we would never fly BA again. I won't even begin to talk about AA in the US...
My recommendation is Qantas all the way.

Qantas is def better.

Food and seats on Qantas are of a higher quality than BA.

Gee, this is a bad state of affairs when I thought Qantas was as bad as a first-world airline can get, and then hear your BA stories-- makes Qantas' lack of interest in those annoying customers seem preferable. Appreciate your advice Davi and Arrow.

I can't say that I have had any major problem with Qantas (or BA for that matter, at least lately). I don't find them particularly bad...

I returned from a trip to Europe in cattle 2 weeks ago flying BA including SIN-SYD, and I wouldn't fly it again if you paid me.

First off, no AVOD on board, so only 15 or so channels on a 2.5 hour rotation, meals were poor and the 777 operating LON-SIN-SYD was in very poor shape.

All 4 cabins, but more notably Club World (business) looked very tired, and in much worse shape than the 747 operating SYD-BKK-LHR which I took the week before, and which had AVOD.

I would take QF any day of the week.

In economy, definitely Qantas, if only for the AVOD. Last month flew BA SYD-SIN-LHR in Premium Economy on the 777, stuck with limited channels on cycle (even same meals as Economy).

Any reason SQ is not one of your choices? Probably the best of the three.

I was actually looking forward for the rest of my DONE4 BOS-LHR and LHR-SYD on BA's New Club World.
Well I believe BOS-LHR on BA will be preferable than AA, but should I take QF instead of BA on LHR-SYD (even with New Club World seat on BA)?

There is a big difference between the new CW and the old CW - - AVOD for a start (I think). Also it is a fully flat bed and on BA you can preallocate exit rows on the upper deck (assuming QF Gold or WP)

I have found the service on BA to be of teh same standard each time mostly - ok but not exemplary - QF has variable standards and I would rather not gamble on a homeward leg.

HOWEVER

Do you have to go via SIN? I am flying LHR-HKG-SYD on BA/QF. Sure I have a few hours in HKG to kill (about 2 - time for a bite in the Wing ;)).

I get the decent flat bed out of london and I have requested an F upgrade out of HKG - if it all works to plan (I.e. NCW and UG comes through) I think it will be the perfect homebound leg :D

BA on the via BKK 747 was okay, i'd just avoid the via SIN 777 routing on BA like the plague.

In economy, I find that Qantas seats are better and meals are about average compared to BA.

Alcohol flows more freely on BA, and the BA FA's tend to customers better.

Agree with the other posts about BA Loop systems vs Qantas AVOD (assuming it is working!)

Just wondering why? I have googled reviews and certainly they are not as bad as you make out. Care to illuminate?

I'd echo the sentiment of the other posters here, QF is certainly the best bet.

BA is really like stepping back in time to the 80's, really shabby planes (esp the 747s)

Hi lisaflys, welcome to AFF.

I have travelled both asia/oz in the last few months in WHY and feel that each have their pros and cons.

The entertainment on QF should be better (as per Supersonic Swinger), the service is normally as Mal posted. (slightly Better food on QF, slightly better service on BA)

As to your last query, yes you get the same QFF points whether you fly BA or QF.

Based on recent stories in the media, BA is a lot more likely to lose your luggage :(

Hmmm, I believe that's generally re LHR; the OP does not indicate any routing via that location.
