This may have been covered off elsewhere - i am unsure.

if not ...

has anyone heard of BA leaving the OneWorld Alliance sometime toward the end of March 06.

Nothing mentioned on BA or OW websites. I think it would be fairly well discussed around here if it was happening shortly.

Source of rumour?

Can't see BA leaving anytime in the near future.

And as jasonja3 says, it would not be overlooked for long.

mate was trying to book an award flight to UK with Qantas/BA and was told by the QF agent that after the end of march they will be leaving OW so can't use them after that time.

if this is real, i want it remembered that i called it first :D

if not, please try to forget ...

Probably the same agent who says that you can travel on a RTW ticket (on all Oneworld airlines) using your Qantas elite baggage allowance without any extra fees.

If the QF staff know it, it would be already posted here. It's not that tight a ship :)

Sounds like when I bought my A4 and the salesman said I could expect to see it racing at Bathurst this year... I've always had a good rule of thumb when it comes to salespeople and call centre workers, if they say something and it's not in writing, don't believe them!

If BA were to leave OneWorld, the whole alliance would be in quite a bit of trouble!

The only notable thing concerning BA that I'm aware of around the end of March is their termination of flights to MEL. Doubt though that this could be related to or mistaken for a bailout from OW...

It can't be right. Last week I booked two seats from SYD-MEL-SIN-SYD, one via the QF website using points and the other via my TA. Our return leg is on 26th April and we're on BA15.

Further from that I'm on an award seat on BA9 on 1st May, so this end of March date you've been given certainly seems to be some kind of error. It would be interesting to see how the person in the call centre came to that conclusion, very strange

The only thing BA is leaving around that time is MEL. And I can understand their desire to leave MEL. I had the exact same desire after living there for 5.5 years (and experiencing 15 winters).

Obviously they cannot compete with SQ, much like QF. In Brisbane oneworld have a single daily service to SIN while SQ have three. The removal of BA from Melbourne also means that QF will be keeping their ex BA 767s on lease for a while longer, and boy do some of those have some serious cycle numbers.

Yes, they remind me of Sydney's old "red-rattlers" - the suburban trains we had for decades. I reckon these 767's are the new "red-rattlers". I might start keeping a tally of how many overhead lockers spontaneously open for each take-off and landing! :D

but they do have very good exit row seating compared with other domestic aircraft.

Yeah, they are more comfortable than a 737 (aside from O7, sob  ), but I'm wondering if I should be taking a helmut on board. One of these days somone is going to get sconned when a hatch opens and a bag falls out. :|

Sat in 4D on a 737-800 ADL-PER on Sunday and it was a great experience. The whole of row 4 are almost perfect economy seats. With the business class seats in front there is more than enough leg room and no one to recline back into you!

I don't know what it is about the 767's, but they seem to land a lot harder than other aircraft. (Although I would give my personal hardest ever landing to one in an MH 777)
