Hi team,

i had a quick thread search but not much luck.

if i wanted to go say SYD-DXB-LHR with a stop in DXB - if the stop is > 24 hours, does the award then price at SYD-DXB and DXB-LHR separately?

also separately - possibly related - if instead i wanted to go SYD-DXB-DFW using EK - is this at the higher price point (in miles) due to it being priced as 2 separate flights being joined?

cheers

It would depend on the fare conditions, some fares allow free stopovers and some don't.

QF don't publish a fare from SYD-DFW via DXB so you could only do this as a multi-city booking.

SYD-DXB-DFW exceeds the 15k miles maximum, so yes it will be priced as two awards.

As a general rule (which doesn't necessarily apply in your case for the reason outlined by madrooster), it will be priced as one single award if the transit is no more than 24 hours. If greater than 24 hours, it will price as two separate awards.

thanks all - does anyone offer a stopover without stinging you for 2 awards ala SQ? I don't think LM & AA do, but Alaska does allow (just not to the middle east!)?

There is the Qantas oneworld award - simply requires at least two oneworld carriers other than Qantas.

Max five stopovers.

Yes, this is the way it works. The only way you can have "free" stopovers, is part of of oneworld awards (which are useful for return itineraries, not so much for one-way itineraries), which are distance based, but do allow up to 5 stopovers (as long as you include 2 non-QF carriers). Of course, no EK, so SYD-DXB would need to be on QF, and DXB-LHR would need to be on QF or BA (or QR via DOH etc ).

Edit: oops .... yep as per what serfty said ( that what's happens when you are interrupted mid reply).

You can get a stopover on one way SQ saver awards for USD $100, with mileage pricing as the single through award.

Lufthansa and United both allow stopovers on award bookings.
