can find lots of SYD-BKK F around the dates i'm looking for but BKK-NRT connecting on is rather rare... unless they're not flying F on that route in mid 2016.

I think they only release 1 F seat on each 3 class flight to Japan

We've got a combined birthday bash to attend in July next year and booked 3 x J HKT-BKK-PER on TG = 120,000 LM + USD$169.35 (2 bookings needed).

Smooth transactions, although one booking got stuck on the final screen for over 30 minutes but that managed to process OK. Flights have all been confirmed and seats chosen.

Had a quick look on Thai’s website and the identical route is listed for over A$4kpp (101k Baht)..although you can get it a bit cheaper if booking each leg separately.

We’re pleased with this deal.. especially given it’s right in the middle of school holidays plus it’s a 787 flat bed on an overnight flight home..

Japan is pretty much Thai's biggest market and has it's highest yielding routes so they do actually try and protect their product here hence a bit less in the award availability area.

what's TG's usual practice with releasing subsequent F seats after the 1st seat is taken? i seem to recall reading somewhere here that they automatically release a 2nd but not anymore after? or maybe i'm thinking about another carrier.

That practice of "replacing" availability after being taken was kind of the common practice for TG for a while. This would normally continue until one of:
  • The cabin was literally full
  • A certain overall quota of award seats made available was reached

The "quota", if there is one, probably varies from route to route. Largely speaking, on flights to and from Japan, they must be low quotas, as it is very difficult to get F on this route, even for one person if you aren't entirely flexible (sometimes a real pain when trying to force the LM system to make connecting flights).

Booked SQ FCO-SIN-HKG in J for mid-June 2016, 75000 points and US$70 (including booking fee). Had to do the screenshot method and wait for call but was straightforward. This will be my first flight with SQ!

Wow! Didn't realize long haul SQ still available with LM. Well done!

While their soft product generally cannot be faulted I believe SQ operate an older/regional type 772 with non lie flats due to lack of competition of this route ?

Though I am happy to be corrected if someone has flown it recently

I'm fairly sure the 777-200ER on FCO has the wide 'benches' in 1-2-1 config.

The aircraft for FCO-SIN is the Boeing 777-200ER (Refitted) version with 1-2-1 like the A380 and this is definitely the seat map I have in MMB :)

That's news to me - so far ahead.

The rule of thumb (which could be wrong, of course) is within 14 days for SQ on LM.

Well done !

Memo to self: need a new rule of thumb !

Isn't that just for flights out of Australia? Things may have changed.. Haven't used LM in a while so haven't kept up with all the changes.

Just be mindful that while the seats are identical to the A380, the IFE is not. It still operates with the very old generation of KrisWorld unfortunately.

First booking using the screenshot and phone method, success!

Took all up about 3 days to finalise; the phone call took less than 30 minutes, was orderly and the agent very competent. If you are fearing some agent who can't hablas Ingles, don't worry - if my agent is anything to go by, you will be fine. The call appeared to originate from Florida according to the meta info pull-up on my phone.

SYD-BKK-CDG in TG F

The SYD-BKK flight is the morning one, so hopefully there are no rude time changes or other underhanded rug pulls.

[-]They were very quick to email me the confirmation of booking, but still need to check over the next few days as according to CMT the e-ticket issuance was not as immediate (i.e. don't want a PNR with no e-ticket attached to it).[/-]

EDIT: Got a couple more emails from Avianca with e-ticket numbers. Called TG, e-ticket numbers are attached. Seats and meal reserved.

Very boring to most but as it will be my first experience in a premium cabin on a full service airline exciting for me.

Booked BKK-SYD in F for October.

Will have to keep an eye on it though as if something opens up early November (1-3) id probably jump on it and cancel the current booking just to give me a couple of more days ;)
