Avalon Airshow 1-6 March 2011

Hi all,
Also, is the airshow suited for children (2 girls, aged 8 &10) or is it really geared to men?

I took my 4 year old daughter and 5 year old son to the Amberley Air Show. They cried when it was time to go home, and that was after spending more than 8 hours there! If your daughters have any interest at all in aviation, then they should have a great time.

Hi all,

I am new to this forum & would really appreciate some opinions on the Avalon Air Show.

I just noticed that the price of the tickets for the 2011 airshow are out of our budget. Can anyone recommend or suggest some locations outside of the airshow arena in which we may be able to get a good look at the planes flying overhead? It may be a silly question but I'm sorry, we have never been anywhere near Avalon or it's surrounds so we are totally unfamiliar with the area.

Also, is the airshow suited for children (2 girls, aged 8 &10) or is it really geared to men? Are you allowed into the exhibition of airplanes and are there many female pilots around as they would be good role models for my daughters.

Any feedback would be much appreciated. With thanks!:)

Heading towards geelong, take the exit after the AVV exit - I think its LARA, turn left and follow the road - it will put you 5 meters from the localising radar at the end of the runway. I would expect the fun police will be stopping parking there, so, when you get to the tight left hand corner with the NO EXIT sign pointing straight ahead, drive along there 200 meters or so, you can park, then walk back the 500-700 meters to the localising radar.

I actually drove past yesterday so noticed it would be a goo spot for even plane spotting!

I took my two boys when they were 11 & 9 at the time. They enjoyed it, and there are armed forces displays and other pavillions etc, but of course, mostly plane related. The only problem we had on the day was the weather was close enough to 40c so that made it very uncomfrtable standing in the sun watching the air shows.

If yours are anything like mine you may find they will become bored in a shorter period of time than it took to get there.... but then again, indoctrinate them while they are young I say lol..;)

Re: Avalon Airshow 1-6 March 2011, BBQ Lunch Saturday anyone?

Just thinking ahead a bit, I'm happy to throw my BBQ into the back of the 4x4 and get a sausage & steak sizzle going on the Saturday if anyone is interested, an AFF AirshoW BBQ - there's something different.

Hands up if anyone is keen

Re: Avalon Airshow 1-6 March 2011, BBQ Lunch Saturday anyone?

Will that involve drinks at little river pub?

;)

yes.. but I also think there is a bar at the airshow too! And i won't be flying myself down this year!

BBQ?
Drinks?

Junior delinquent and i are both there!

He can talk shop with you all about flying stuff and i will just eat and drink!

I havent figured out where i'm sleeping yet so transport may be an issue if i have too many drinks!

Either day is fine by me as we're there for the 3 public day s

Munita weren't you in minus 100 degrees this time last year? (says me who was snowed in in London!)

This is looking promising, hope to attend a trade day on either Thursday or Friday so Saturday would be a good day for an AFF Airshow BBQ.

Should be able to get there Saturday if there is a AFF BBQ.

(Actually even if there is not a BBQ)

I think I will be but the aircraft will be there for the whole show so I should be able to come and go as required on the show days.

Not quite minus 100, but correct, I was in Harbin China at the Snow and Ice festival, and this time next year, will be back there as well as my plans for Tibet were dashed to small pieces when SWMBO suggested we should return to Harbin. When she "suggests" something, she generally gets her way... got to run, I need to iron her pants before she leaves for work...

I'll be there all day Friday if you end up making it that day. Arriving 8:45am directly into AVV and departing Saturday afternoon.

Staying in Geelong on Friday night.

Keen as long as a 2:45pm flight out of AVV would let me partake? :)

Sounds good, I will have 2 x wallace jnrs in tow... where were you thinking, car park?
We could start a trend here that could rival Melbourne Cup Day car park antics :D

OK - BBQ at 1230pm on Saturday

If anyone could bring a folding table, that would be good.

Oz_mark - perhaps a Majito session the night before so I have someone to give me a hand to load the BBQ? eh - sounds good?

then we'll have to be at the airshow nice and early to secure a carpark near the entrance...
;)
