Can anyone tell me, how far away from the Jetstar / Domestic terminal is the Airshow ??

Eg., If you fly into Avalon via a domestic / commercial flight, is the Airshow within walking distance? Will they have a shuttle bus bus running to the Airshow?

Any other advice / comments would be appreciated.

regards,
GORDO

The terminal is pretty much in the middle of the airshow... an easy walk...

Ahhh, thanks for that.
I've never actually been to Avalon, and I have an AMEX 'free flight' to use in the near future.

Seems like a great way to use the flight, when I have nowhere else to go...

If you can book it, do it.. You'll land in the middle of it all. But i'd check the timetables and also see if you can redeem the amex free flight with JQ. I know there are some restrictions with the flight choices.

You are able to use the free flight on JQ.

I would assume that Jetstar would not be able to fly in/out of Avalon certinaly during the event and probably for a small time either side of the event. That means you'd have to fly into Tullamarine, in which case you're better off with a Qantas flight.

JQ continue to operate during the airshow - it's just carefully co-ordinated with ATC and the ringmaster.

hey thats cool... wonder if you could sneak into the event from arrivals

QF usually run a charter from Sydney which you can get a seat on for a day trip with admission included, usually its announced around about now! Perhaps this year it will be the A380!

( wander in, free of charge ) I doubt it...

There is a significant security presence; the use of hundreds of 'volunteers', and Air Force cadets to marshall people and vehicles, and plus, if the cost of entry is up to $160. a day.... they aren't going to let people just wander in !!

General entry is $50. per day ( this is the min. cost ticket )

From the Tuesday through to 1100 Friday a Defence pass/identity card will get you in for free. I presume it applies to contractors as well as ADF and APS.

Tuesday to Friday morning are the Trade days and are not open to the public.

In the past i have flown down from Moorabbin usually taking my dad.. It's quite a sight landing on the main strip (or even the taxyway used) and taxying over to the parking area. THe first year i did it i was greeted by some shell girls (think motor racing) who have me a "showbag" as I was the pilot and escorted us to a waiting mini bus to take us to the expo...
