Australian state border restrictions

I am in Vic. All I know is that I’ve waited two years for a holiday and had a special birthday with family on a luxury remote island north of Cairns leaving tomorrow. Not. A few weeks ago we had no cases and the various ‘football hubs’ all here for weeks accordingly. I’m vaccinated (which means nothing) and our holiday is gone. Sadly I could not follow the football hubs (as only footballers are considered essential workers for travel purposes). I give up.
Hear you. Bad day for us today. Son's wedding in UK. Bloody zoom. Everyone relevant over there and all of us here are vaccinated.

Just received a text from SA Health because I "may have recently arrived from NSW". Hmmm, transited through SYD three weeks ago. Left SA two weeks ago.
Yep, they're on the ball!
I received a similarly precautionary text prior to actually leaving home! It stated something like “you are noted to be returning from Sydney between ……. and need to be aware“ . In fact I would not have been returning from Sydney near those dates but traveling out of Perth and my details would have been picked up from QF passenger lists. It was a confusing message to me but it does show contract tracers hard at work covering all bases. Good on them. It also rang a bell in my head to perhaps avoid Sydney transit!

South Australia blocks almost all Victorian travellers

South Australia has barred almost all Victorian residents from entering the state – and plans to prevent South Australians returning next week without specific exemptions.

Effective immediately, only SA residents, people genuinely relocating or those fleeing domestic violence can enter from Victoria.

There is still a 70km cross-border bubble zone but Victorians cannot go any further into SA.

Police Commissioner Grant Stevens has warned South Australian residents to come home now and do two weeks home quarantine, or risk being locked out early next week, due to the deteriorating situation in Victoria.

They would then need to apply for limited exemptions from SA Health as is currently the case for SA residents in New South Wales

TAS just declared all of NSW high risk.

Adding regional NSW to the previously declared Sydney region:

Mr Gutwein estimated that 1,400 people have travelled to Tasmania from regional New South Wales in the last week.

"They are very low risk," Mr Gutwein said.

"There is no evidence of community transmission in regional New South Wales, we are doing this pre-emptively on the basis of what's occurring in New South Wales at the moment and where this could go."

I have also read that South Australia has added a provision that people who have completed hotel quarantine in NSW or ACT and who then travel onwards to SA, in accordance with the usual requirements, then still have to complete 14 days home quarantine in SA.

If true that’s a new level of stupid from SA on top of sweaty balls and killing people on their sloppy borders. Seriously.

It's depressing to be proven right. I had regional NSW work booked for this coming week and I cancelled the lot. My alternative plan was to re-assess tomorrow (Sunday) and see what I could do with last minute bookings.
Oh well, I've a bunch of fencing to do and at least the rain will make the posts go in easy!

Hi again - reaffirming thanks to fellow posters for their support and kind words …..….and hugs/thoughts to all those others who were in similar circumstances to mine (I am just one story of many and it’s a holiday we’re talking about not funeral)… there are so many silver linings for me……. I just read that a group of Victorians were taken from Hamilton Island and put into Qld quarantine 😱😱( having been previously isolated in their rooms - due to hotspot declaration 15/7) after it was then identified that had been in Tier 1/2 site……
NOTE - I fully endorse isolate/test etc , I am just grateful I can do my lockdown here at home and not as part of my holiday.

I have also successfully cancelled a forthcoming trip to Broome with immediate refunds from all providers and lovely messages of support…

I did get to celebrate that zero birthday …

AND have started a Whatsapp narrative with all my friends around the world. The topic? Acknowledging the travellers mantra that the best travel stories are often based on awful things that happen which we laugh about later, we are sitting in a restaurant in Taomina in Sicily which is my favourite place on earth. It is 23 July 2023. We make up conversations about what’s happening to us right now (and actually laugh). e.g. When I finally got to unpack my case that was hastily put together trying to grab an earlier flight on Thursday afternoon to Cairns I found I had packed all odd shoes…

take care travellers … stay positive … test negative

In case I’m taken to task when I say immediate refunds - I have in writing from all providers plus nice messages (except QF of course)

The upside of this is you need to go buy shoes !!!! 👡👡👡👡

And lastly… we can tell our grandchildren we lived under the laws pre-federation that guides each colony’s power.
I’m looking forward to my letter from AP (and WA) advising ‘ Thankyou for your kind offer to contribute to our states Medicare funds via your taxes. Although we manage the hospitals we do still need medicare funds for this to happen. May I remind you that Qld hospitals are for Queenslanders- so I am returning your $$$?’

We had that as well when we cancelled most of our WA itinerary in May.All providers did promise immediate refunds and in most cases was back in our hands within 48 hours.the comments were all nice as well.Though it depends as one provider did reply that we understand that our megalomaniac Premier has caused you such problems.

whole of SA to go into restrictions (semi lockdown) from midnight
