Australian state border restrictions

The states also react to how the 'host' state reacts. Immediate closure suggests there are wider issues.

Sure, but SA closed their borders so quickly and hap hazardly they actually killed a man and before VIC the 'host' state had even thought about a lockdown...

I'd say SA in particular bigger issue on their hands to deal with given their sloppy border processes has killed more people than the latest outbreak in VIC.

It is pretty devastating that this is what they have been reduced to :(

I won’t defend SA on that sad tale.
So today Victorians from greater Melbourne still can’t travel to SA. Except for the 300 tennis players just arrived to play a tennis tournament. 🤷‍♀️

FROM ABC News covid blog:

Berejiklian says internal state borders should be on next national cabinet agenda

The NSW Premier says with the COVID vaccine rollout underway, she wants the issue of internal state borders to be discussed at the next national cabinet meeting.

She says with no local cases of infection around the nation, it should be back on the agenda.

Gladys Berejiklian says even if a few local cases emerge it doesn't justify state border closures.

"That is no way to run our nation internally," she said.

I understand the international borders, I don't understand the internal borders.

"We need to start thinking about the future because we run the risk of being left behind.

"We've done incredibly well on the health side but we also need to do well on keeping jobs, keeping the economy growing."

QLD Borders to Reopen to all Victorians from 1am Saturday 27th February.

Excellent news!

Heading to QLD for a brief trip soon.

I already have my DPRV visa so I can come home.

Do I need anything similar to go?

What an absolutely moronic comment and good to see he was instantly screamed down by everyone in WA and forced to walk it back and fully retract instantly.

Don’t these state premiers understand we never want to see or hear from them ever again? Talk about trying to overplay a hand....

West Australian Premier Mark McGowan has quickly backtracked on a plan to explore keeping border restrictions in place beyond the COVID-19 state of emergency, after public outcry saw the plans scuttled within hours.

Don't worry. Our CHO said the other day she'd like to see Covid QR check ins continue after the pandemic was over. Just in case of, well, something? In SA we are supposed to check in everywhere, even in homes if you have a party for over 50 people I think it is, and also at work. Shops. Even at a counter in a food hall. At each counter.

The only thing worth listening to from any of the SA leaders will be how they defend themselves in the inquiry into the death they caused at the border due to the sloppy border restrictions they put up at the last minute, with no planning.

Apart from that, I don’t want to hear a word from any of the three amigos. Let alone another brain fart like this from the SA CHO.

Well, I think the Commissioner has had a gut full after the Pizza man. Not only did he (rightfully at the time, but still) close SA down for three days, but had to cancel his daughters wedding on the Saturday, then explain to the media a day or so later that the guy had misled the tracers, but then when it came to prosecuting the pizza guy, SA Health refused to hand over their evidence. Quadrella right there.

That's his job, just because he's had a gutful doesn't excuse him executing his job (in this case border restrictions) sloppily resulting in someone's death.

Err, there's an election campaign going on. Like it or not, you'll be seeing them around during elections.

Friend of mine is planning to fly from Tas to WA next week for a conference. He got his G2G pass ... approved, but it told him he'd have to quarantine on arrival!! That can't be right, can it (seriously)? He hasn't been anywhere 'dodgy' - just Tas (sure, ha, ha ...), where we haven't had a case for, oh, months and months and months.

Possibly depends on the answers given. If flying by Melbourne, for example, it may be correct. Even then, the restriction on Victoria should be coming off early next week...

Heaps of errors with the WA G2G pass, we had so many issues with it shuttling all our team around. Like everything WA does, its about 15 years behind the rest of the world ;)
