Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I am talking about what you quoted. Your quote was:

Now having also listened to Weimar at the pressers I know that he mentioned for example that with the 120 odd at the Housing Commission, that 86 were tested on the first day. The next day he said more had been tested, but some were still outstanding. He has recently reported that all in the Housing Commission have been released from quarantine and that there were no positive cases. So clearly not as you assert "They have refused testing. Period." as in this case people have been tested over a period of time even though they were all asked to be tested on the first day.
I am quoting the person who stated that, according to media reports. I have made no referrals to the Year 5 student but those people refusing to be tested. What you are discussing here is a time of testing issue. Not relevant. It is those who refused testing at any time that I have referred to. I don't know why you bring in issues that I haven't referred to in rebutting what I have quoted. Are you suggesting that Weimar has been incorrectly quoted when he stated that families were refusing to be tested? Because that is the only situation I am referring to today.

I guess the bottom line is that you believe it to be a problem whereas Weimar has stated “ We do not allow people who were suspected of harbouring the virus to go out to the community"

People have the choice to be tested, or to just stay in quarantine.

Weimar has discussed during the last week what they are doing for people in the second category to ensure that people are not at risk both in terms of virus transmission, but also in terms of the health and wellbeing of those in quarantine.

From what he discussed those measures seem to be quite thorough.

I guess I'm not prepared just yet to forget the history when covid patients were allowed to exercise in public and recent communication issues that still seem to have potential repercussions.

Everyone has reservations I guess - I have great nervousness about QLD’s ability to manage a more complex community transmission event and also concern about SA/WA as well who have luckily skipped under the radar with only minor straight forward seeding events to deal with.

Tasmania has just announced they have completely overhauled their contact tracing in preparation for their borders opening, now they are apparently inline with NSW and VIC and we aren’t seeing those sorts of updates from the other states.... what have they been doing? Let’s hope they’ve been using this time wisely!

NSW and VIC are the only states with complex and ongoing transmission experience (unluckily) so I really really hope people can stop pointing fingers and just get on with working together as one country on this now.

It’s inevitable the open borders are going to produce community transmission so they last thing we need is yet another state V state battle on who is to blame, who is better, ‘we would have done this’ (especially from states criticising NSW and VIC actively battling the
virus, and from states who have done pretty much sweet nothing for months).

I think NSW has handled issues exceptionally well after Ruby was finished but was also in the early days. And they are still doing the lions share of overseas arrivals. They have handled outbreaks since Ruby very well without extensive lockdowns. Qld handled the cluster that occurred when the three covididiots did their thing and which did involve a nursing home. From what I read Tasmania handled things well given their resources. SA has done some things very right but has also had mishaps but which luckily for them didn't unravel too much and were over in 4 weeks.

Well that is your privilege to do so.

Mistakes happen as in SA where when well after the matter you raise a 20 year female "visits" (indoor exercise one presumes ) with SA Essential worker who was meant to be in isolation, contracts CV19 from him and then spreads it out into the community.

So I guess you must not forget that either, nor the SA CHO who apologised for the several mistakes made early in that outbreak. Slow testing, incorrect advice to the hotel concerned, etc

I would assume and hope that both states CHO's have learnt from their mistakes and have amended what they do in terms what is happening now.

In terms of quarantine, from what Weimar has discussed this week they have ramped and tightened things up considerably. But even NZ with their multiple hotel quarantine breaches recently shows that negative things can still happen.

Case numbers are still headed in the right direction though in Vic and so they must be doing at least some things ok now one assumes.

Has there been an update on the boy actually infecting anyone?

The second EPIC case was a parent with as yet no link to the boy. The other EPIC cases have not been said to be linked to the boy, but have not been said to not to be either. However all EPIC cases where I have seen a link attributed, have not been to the boy. Several parents are infected and so far that is presumably outside of EPIC. Several more students infected. At least Epic student was attributed to be from their mother who also infected the Croxton school student who was also her child, plus the father.

While some people wish to maintain their "unease" the cases since the peak of the second wave in Victoria have continued to decline at a very good rate, and as the total new cases have declined the control measures that can now be deployed on new cases is all the greater. And it means that control measures can now be more thorough.

Having to now only jump on 7, or so, new cases each day is an easier task that trying to jump on 700 odd. But that 7 is due to a lot of hard work and sacrifices by the masses here in Vic.

However the virus remains highly transmissible and that means that there will be fluctuations, but we are getting there.

Ah yes, I agree which is why I posted this (below) in the post above yours and that SA got lucky so 🤷‍♀️
SA has done some things very right but has also had mishaps but which luckily for them didn't unravel too much and were over in 4 weeks.
It is too soon to assess the impact of the child attending school while infectious.

I would hope that Victoria has seen a significant reduction in Covid cases. And they have. I hope that businesses can somehow get going again after so much time and uncertainty that still exists.

As far as the concept of "Blame" goes - if we cannot or refuse to establish where mistakes and issues arise then how the heck can we learn and address them so as not to happen again and engender trust that rectification has been achieved.

It might help not to call for the scalps of the persons or departments who made the "mistakes" but made them in absolute good faith? Else the "mistakes" are going to be hidden or denied and take longer to solve. Tricky but that's the politics of the blame game. Admit a mistake and you're out.

FWIW I saw some huge "mistakes" being made re COVID-19 isolation at an a Adelaide hotel when I was there. I think SA and other states are on a wing and a prayer that it worked out (so far) better for them. With a fair bit of luck.

Likely so and I think it would be an excellent idea to make those mistakes known to the people in charge. I reported issues at Adelaide airport to the CHO where crowding was significant during the border check process. Absolutely no social distancing at all and many not wearing masks.

There are mistakes, perhaps made in good faith (but then you come to the question of competence) and then there is the scuttling away by everybody in authority of any knowledge of how the mistake came about (hotel security issue). If you have made a mistake that's resulted in the deaths of hundreds, you should be out ... and subject to industrial manslaughter laws.

The family where the child was sent back to school are fighting back at the claims. If the media source is correct he was tested on October 10 and did not receive results.
"On October 10 a nurse visited the home to test the boy, with the family saying they never received the results from the boy's test, even after informing DHHS they were still waiting on the results.

Health authorities claimed the family was in quarantine at the time were “expressly told not to” send the boy to school.

But the family has now hit back at these claims, showing The Age an email sent from the DHHS on October 17 informing them they were free to leave isolation"

Great numbers.

Mystery cases trigger down 2 as well to 7 now.

So good chance now that Vic will now move on with the 1st Nov restrictions at least in part occurring earlier.

Will these numbers include the 1000 tests that prevented the release of restrictions yesterday? It will be hard for small businesses to plan for opening now by getting in supplies etc, only to have to throw them out if planned reopenings get cancelled at the last minute.

It includes a batch of them yes, with more being processed today apparently.

Negative again in outlook I see.

The results today is good news, but yet you want to go with whatever is announced today will be last minute cancelled?

I am pretty sure it includes them - there were media announcements last night. The concept was that businesses would be told a few days in advance. So yesterday there could have been an announcement that things would open on Wednesday and businesses would have been allowed to get staff in from today in order to prepare. I agree once they are told they are opening the government has to go ahead, unless there were catastrophic numbers - say over 30 withs lots of mystery cases.

today obviously is a fantastic result.
