Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Some salient points from from Allen Cheng:

Chadstone. 8 recent cases lined to fresh food at the Chadstone Shopping Centre. (You can see some of that on the hotspot DHHS page)

Frankston. Family household outbreak.

Anglesea; Second sewage positive test (Note that a non-infectious person could be generating this).

Unknown/Mystery Cases: Have been steadily decreasing. Recently have been in 14 different LGA's (as per the point I made just earlier).

perhaps a partial function of not following as closely, but I would have hoped this was raised publicly earlier (eg when there were two cases linked at the same site, indicating a live transmission site)....this is the report from news.com.au Covid blog

'Bit of a situation' in Frankston

Victoria's Deputy Chief Health Officer Professor Allen Cheng has revealed a coronavirus outbreak in a Frankston household is linked to the Chadstone Shopping Centre cluster.
There have been eight cases in the centre's fresh food section, with staff contract traced and cleaning completed.
While it is now "perfectly safe" to visit the mall, anyone who was there from September 23 to 28 who develops "even the slightest" symptoms is urged to get tested.
"We have a bit of a situation in Frankston that is linked to the Chadstone cases," Prof Cheng said.
"…there is an outbreak that involves a household that are being supported to isolate.
"At Frankston there is a pop-up clinic at the Peninsula Aquatic Centre. There is no exposure site in the area, but obviously for those who have symptoms in Frankston, if you could come forward for testing, that will help us find the cases and trace contacts."

I assume you mean Chadstone., The Butcher Club - Chadstone and Fresh Food Precinct cases are new. However I knew about them yesterday, I had not checked the hotspot page each day (I mainly look when I go out) and so do not know when they were added, but they were there when I looked yesterday. Cases currently limited to workers and the Franskton Family.

Chadstone is a massive shopping centre and has had cases off and on since the early days of the pandemic due the massive volume of people there. Less now of course with a lot of retail closed or operating online pick up only.

I had to go to my optometrist there at Chadstone (normally I avoid the place due to the number of people there) not long ago, and just checked the hotspot page then. It had from memory two recent cases as well at different stores on different days. As were different stores though to the current cases and were a few weeks back they are probably not linked.

The VIC stat that is not very encouraging is 16 drop in overall infections (289 -16) but 15 added today.

Kinda feels like stagnating and there is so much clamouring to open up more which will just result in a blow out.

I was hoping VIC to be in single digits most days by now.

Remember though the active cases in aged care are cleared very differently and in batches so you see leaps down every now and there. The trend is your friend and where the cases are is important.

Guess I'm selfishly a bit down in the mouth for the next few days. A big "0" birthday this weekend and in different circumstances would have had a party with maybe 60-100 people, now I'll be eating leftovers out of the fridge at home in iso. Relatives who were coming to visit can't, etc.

From SMH.com.au:

Queensland border to stay closed until after election
By Lydia Lynch

Queensland's border will remain closed to most of NSW until after the state election on October 31, Deputy Premier Steven Miles has confirmed.

The 28 days of zero community virus transmission in NSW that Queensland demanded before reopening the border was reset last Friday even though health authorities believed they had linked the case to a known outbreak.

NSW Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant said genome testing of the western Sydney man "indicates that he has a type of genome sequence that is linked to [the Liverpool Hospital cluster]".

However, NSW Health had not been able to find "a definitive source or interaction" that caused the transmission and it would be up to Queensland health authorities to determine if they still considered the case not to be linked to the known cluster.

Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young confirmed it would still be treated as a mystery case and the border clock was now at seven of 28 days.

"The nationally agreed-to discussion was that it needed to be linked within 48 hours and we are beyond that time frame now," she said. "So it is about easily linking a case."

Dr Young said the trigger for a border opening with NSW would be reached on October 22 if no unlinked cases of COVID-19 were found before then.

But the earliest Queensland would actually open the border would be on November 1, the day after the Queensland state election, Mr Miles confirmed.

"It is only today that we have expanded that border zone, let's see how that goes, clearly there are still active cases in Sydney," he said.

"The real test there is how easily [cases] can be linked and if you can't link it within 48 hours then it is difficult to know what other risks were about."

The confirmation borders would stay closed through October came as no new cases were detected in Queensland and the border bubble with NSW was extended further south.

I’m so sick of this COVID world. Highs and lows. Nephew gone off to Perth today for ADF duties so he will be in Perth. Other nephew and family stuck in WA. One son will be in UK. Other nephew in France. Christmas will be full of missing people. And that normally wouldn’t be an issue - hop on a plane if you are desperately keen to see them. But 🤷‍♀️

And the reason he hasn't gotten tested in the past two months?

Didnt say but possibly didnt have any symptoms at the time.

Anyone going in for elective surgery or working in certain places has to take a test symptoms or not, so i suspect they will pick a number of people who have antibodies but never felt sick over time.

From a NSW perspective it seems that QLD, NT, WA and TAS really don't want us. A friend has nicknamed them the 'border wall' states.

I will be prioritising VIC, SA, ACT and regional NSW for my travel dollars domestically and once overseas travel is possible overseas destinations will be preferenced over the 'border wall' states.

NT have announced that all of NSW can enter NT without need to quarantine form 9th Oct (and regional areas already can). It is a shame they remained closed during winter which is the best time to visit the Territory. NT in summer isnt appealing.

But I agree WA, Qld and Tas dont want us at all.

The only travel Ive done this year was to Byron Bay, and have plans for AFF weekend in Canberra and maybe a return trip to Byron or Adelaide at xmas -if Qld do open up before Xmas i will not reward them with my tourist $ in the near term since their border closure has been unreasonable.

Same. Have booked CBR, ADL, ASP, BNK, DRW. Cancelled CNS, MKY, OOL and BNE.

You can do the maths on the 2 weeks that won't be spent in Queensland in the next 12 months.

Being in QLD, I’m doing LRE and CNS trips from BNE. Looking for a few more. 😀. Nothing to the South, at this time. 😉

Edited (spellcheck)

Yeah i had to cancel a CNS trip 3 days out when Anna slammed the border shut again.
Each time I've explained to the person I am contacting the reason why, including the VA staff in Brisbane, hotel staff at various locations, and my personal favourite - Queensland Rail, who are state government employees.

I was supposed to have big "0" birthday in April. Family coming from interstate etc. and a great restaurant booked. It didn't happen . So until we can all get together, I don't accept the extra year to my age. I may remain x9 years old for some time.

Glass-half-empty? Might be time to top it up from your drinks trolley. 😉

Edit: May be some ‘me’ time coming up.
