Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

But where do those Victorians live? Most Victorian country towns are CV19 free.
Melbourne. They interviewed a few last night at the border. Working in Melbourne and family in Adelaide. Where our restrictions are almost normal = future community spread.

At the moment. With all these Melburnians fleeing the city and heading to their ā€œholiday homesā€ in the country how long before that changes.

It has already changed. FROM 11:59PM 8 JULY 2020 . Police have random road checks and people are being turned back including daytrippers/surfers. Some busy roads have permanent road testing stations. Others are random pop-ups that move around.

Though that is outside of the GMMA. My father lives on the Mornington Peninsula, where many holiday homes are, and he believes it is a lot busier this week. At his local IGA today his register operator said to him that they were twice as busy as normal.

MP is within the GMMA though and so all the restrictions apply.

Don't they have to do 14 day self-isolation after entering?

Yes but we know how that pans out in reality.

And right on cue

Well one bloke has already breached his self isolation
Well that is awful but they've put him in jail until August 12th. Winner!

Probably not surprising given the large number of cases both today, and in previous days, but the DHHS has released a lot less data today and virtually no salient points.

The cases by LGA has 281 cases versus the 288 announced to day, and there is gap here too. However from what was included today the vast majority of cases are still in the main hotspot areas. But there is certainly spread far and wide though mainly within the GMMA.

What is this??

Those numbers are absolutely not the active cases by LGA.

Where are you getting this from?

EDIT: You not reporting active cases at all, you are reporting every single case, ever. Not active.

Please be more careful, you are spreading false information, Iā€™m sure non intentionally but causing worry for people.

The active cases are far lower.

Very informative

Not really. Alarmist and inaccurate at best.

Threats of fines/gaol have no effect on some, unless you are basically an honest/law-abiding person. However, itā€™s not the honest people (who will usually do the right thing), that we are worried about.

Having been refused bail by a magistrate, we wait until next week when he seeks Supreme Court bail to see how the courts are prepared to deal with this. Hopefully, a message will be sent.

It appears to be from CovidLive, but it is not the Active Cases table.

Even if Melbourne numbers get to say 500 per day(hopefully not), I donā€™t think Vic Government /CHO has any plan for any further/harsher lockdown measures.

Yes hospitalization ICU and ventilator numbers we need to watch out for but it doesnā€™t seem to be even at 10% use by Vic/Melbourne COVID patients.

There probably are no further plans, but thereā€™s not a hell of a lot more they can do.

Realistically, the overall case numbers are meaningless. Thereā€™s just so many worldwide now that it means little. Given the majority of people who have the virus donā€™t even know theyā€™ve had it, the bigger concern is those who need treatment in hospital.

I am sure it wasn't deliberate, my partner was looking at the DHHS (Victoria government) website and noted that Surf Coast had 10 cases and Greater Bendigo 12 (I've just return to former from latter earlier this week), which shocked me, and matches the numbers lovetravellingoz posted. I looked at website and said scroll to next slide as he was looking at total cases - the actives case much lower, a little less shocking.

Here's the active cases.

Thanks for clearer figures.

So I gather non-Melbourne LGAs of concern are Geelong and Bendigo areas.

Over the past few days, they seem to have similar number of cases as ACT and Albury, with both getting one less active case (recovery, I hope) in the meantime. Mitchell getting to 9 with 3 more cases today.

Sorry, my mistake as I linked the wrong table.. ......but look at the last column on new daily cases which is the one I wanted to feature and that column is accurate.
The embedded links in the table all went through to the source of covidlive.com.au

(Note I have edited the other column to be CASES now).

Both have relatively low figures given their populations sizes. Populations of Greater Geelong at 250K and Greater Bendigo at 110K.
Mitchell has 44K which is probably why it made the lockdown list as it has a higher case/ population number..

Note too that while Moyne does show as zero it did actually have 4 active cases there, but they drove back to Melbourne to be tested and so are recorded as cases there, rather than Moyne (Port Fairy) where they were holidaying.

Good on locking him up.

I wonder why he was allowed to cross the border though.

Had he also claimed to be an essential worker or have compassionate reasons? I would guess he lied.

I only ask as I thought the border had been closed for a long time to Victorians unless they could prove one of those categories.

PS. Just as I was in favour of the apartment lockdown ( quarantine), I am in favour of Victoria being quarantined. Though I do think that the various bordertowns are special cases and either should be in bubbles, or to have the SA and NSW enforcement zones moved temporarily to swallow them whole.

I was also very surprised that he was allowed in. Didnā€™t the SA Premier made a big thing about maintaining a hard border with Victoria?

The border was "open" with self iso until midnight that night. That was my frustration. It gave people time to drive to the border and escape.

Yep. At midnight that night. That's why I vented here a few posts ago. People had a day to escape into SA before the hard border came in. Prior to that anyone could come in but had to self iso for 14 days. Which was in place when he came in on Wednesday I think it was. As did many they interviewed in the media. "We didn't want to stay under lockdown in Melbourne so we drove across to SA where it's much nicer and we had to do it by midnight because after that the Vics weren't allowed in"

This guy came from a hotspot and went for a walkabout in my local area!

Qld - 2 both travellers in quarantine
NSW - 7, 5 travellers in quarantine, 1 traveller from Victoria, 1 linked to Crossroads Hotel (Casula).
