Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Looking at it from a purely clinical perspective the reason for hotel quarantine is that the incidence of COVID-19 in this group is massive in comparison to the average Australian population. If you can prevent the spill into the general population then that’s what you would do from a public health perspective. It’s similar to locking down nursing homes / public housing commission etc. Keep the risk contained in a small area where you can manage it.

I am worried about the management plan for the positives. Whatever the plan was at Newmarch in Sydney it clearly failed. Some of the families in the Melbourne Towers have enough kids for a sports team but only 3 or 4 bedrooms. If one person tests positive but does not require hospital treatment then how do you prevent the spread to the rest of the family?

NSW/VIC border to close, apparently
According to ABC

New South Wales-Victoria border to be closed

The ABC understands the Victorian-NSW border will be closed from Tuesday night following talks between Premiers Daniel Andrews, Gladys Berejiklian and the Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

...wonder how the PM will spin this and be consistent with his previous position....or has AHPPC changed its view?

Also now on the news.com.au live updates.

Working with a few ADF lads this morning and they have been given notice that they may be called upon to patrol the border

127 new #COVID19Aus cases in Victoria (+124 total)

• 34 linked to known outbreaks
• 40 routine testing
• 53 under investigation
• -3 previous cases reclassified

Only a rumour, but ....

There was a reported rumour on radio 3AW this morning was that Victoria have recorded over 200 new cases in the last day.

The presenters did not want to know about it ...

A rumour (inaccurate at best) on 3AW (highly inaccurate as a promise ) so will believe it when I hear it from official sources 😂

No I don't know.

However 53 in total in apartment towers till today.

400 tests in towers yesterday.

An increase of 26. So if results were back on all 400 that is a high positive rate (Speculation- some may have been from tests the day prior. You would think though that the apartment tower tests would be fast-tracked).

This certainly vindicates the lockdown of the towers.

Why would he need to 'spin' it? He was involved in talks, apparently, but as ever, its a decision of NSW government (with Vic govt as apparently they are allowing border town crossings).

400 tests in the towers so far. The increase to 53 today is because a further 26 cases from previous tests have now been linked to the tower.

Who cares? It's dynamic. You say this with the benefit of days of hindsight. At this point in time, I'd listen to anyone who could criticise a position from days ago but give one that won't look foolish in a week's time. I'm waiting to find such a rare specimen to emerge.

Andrews has said one of the issues was that were large numbers or people involved in monitoring travellers leaving Vic and they can better use those resources.

For those unfamiliar with the Murray, there are a number of "twin" towns that effectively operate as one city.

Especially Albury/Wodonga. As an example of the the hospital located in NSW there is actually operated by Vic.

There are many other locations where there are towns on one side which are major work and shopping locations for people from across the river in the other state.
