Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

The lack of NSW co-operation (or even basic contact) with Victoria was shown starkly recently with NSW blocking all Victorian doctors, nurses, orderlies etc who work at the hospital just the other side of the border - from crossing to go to the hospital. This resulted in large parts of the hospital effectively shutting down due to insufficient staff.

Do you have a source for this? In border towns like Albury-Wadonga staff living on the Vic side have to have a permit to come and work on the NSW side, and NSW residents working on the Vic side have to have a permit to return - these have been issued and looking at the huge number of border crossing reported since the restrictions came into play, these movement are happening.

Gladys complains that Qld did not personally notify her before changing the restrictions for entry into Qld for people living in Greater Sydney starting in a f5 days time

She sarcastically commented, that she hadn't been notified, I didn't hear any complaints form Gladys, but plenty of complaints from the people affected . By the way the notice was 2.5 days - announced at lunch time Wed, takes effect 1am Saturday.

.... And of course the brother is saying its because they are black is why everyone is so angry at them ...

And the mother is not happy that her daughter is being called a criminal.

[In the absence of a breakdown of the ICU system...] Early deaths from Covid are very likely to be in frail vulnerable people who are not able to withstand or benefit from the rigors of intubation. They will often be from nursing homes and be managed palliatively.
There was one in their 50s overnight.

How are the ant-masker protesters permitted to gather in Melbourne this morning? Protesting isnt one of the 4 reasons, surprised Vic Police havent fined them and then arrested any that didnt move on, pictures show they have been there since before dawn and still there after sunrise.

And the Vic Premier was clear that protesting was not one of the 4 reasons.....

And the mother is not happy that her daughter is being called a criminal.

Yep saying the friend was in Melbourne but her daughter was only in Sydney, despite evidence from the airline and the Vic police who broke up their illegal house party in Melbourne proving she was there. Its sad to claim racism when there has been genuine criminal activity.

And the Vic Premier was clear that protesting was not one of the 4 reasons.....

Not disputing that - the question was more why they haven't been forced to move on already? At the NSW protests this week, the police arrested the organises as soon as they showed up, they didnt allow it to start. Given the health emergency is even worse in Vic, I would have expected the same swift action from Vic police.

And the mother is not happy that her daughter is being called a criminal.
Perhaps the mother needs to either ask her daughter about this or perhaps she risks being branded the same:

She said her daughter was studying pharmac_ at Griffith University and had never been in trouble with the police before.

However, a spokesman for Griffith University told the ABC the woman had never studied, nor applied to study there.

I hope the ABC report is accurate & got the spelling of the name correct.

There are a lot of innocent people in this. It’s very early days and we’ll see what happens and who said what to whom and who did what as time passes.

“The mother of one of the women said she understood public anger amid fears about a second wave of community transmission — but felt her daughter had been unfairly singled out as a "serious criminal".

Speaking to the ABC from hotel quarantine, Ms Lasu's mother Aida said she was upset that her daughter faced public vilification when other wrongdoers under COVID-19 restrictions had not been named and shamed”.

“Imagine if you have something like that, you don't have any support and people treat you like a serious criminal," she said.

"Nobody wants to give you support. She's very sad. She is my daughter. She's not an animal."

ABC quote.

And the mother is not happy that her daughter is being called a criminal.

To be honest, I’m over the 2 Qld border crossings instance - they have been charged, let the police do their work which will include which allegations / excuses are accurate.

Lets get back to virus spread....Qld announcing more now

Nothing wrong with over-staffing. Much wrong with not using them when needed elsewhere. No problem making phone calls to Victorian numbers other than political ones I suspect.

Victoria did ask other states for assistance & the ones that provided support got named, the ones that did not were not singled out but the glaring omission is NSW.

With the contact tracing (I've been told) it has been getting easier (one reason noted in previous post) once a cluster has been identified. Questioning goes along the line have you eaten out recently, what suburb? Where do you work, shop etc.

Then Gladys complains that Qld did not personally notify her before changing the restrictions for entry into Qld for people living in Greater Sydney starting in a f5 days time - pot, kettle, black.

So, until (once) NSW demand requires them to be occupied for most of the day - then the NSW Govt is 'cutting off its nose to spite its face' by not having them support Victoria.

But then again when has politics EVER put the community in front of blind ambition? If ever there was a time - it is now.
Sorry but your facts are wrong.NSW has not stopped hospital staff working at hospitals just across the border from working.
However if those staff are working at hospitals outside the border zone they have to self isolate for 14 days on return.
The hospital complaining was Wangaratta which is nearly 70km from Wodonga and nearly 50KM from the nearest NSW border crossing.Of course the media plays up the interstate rivalry.

But if you read down to the bottom of the article you have this by the CEO of the region encompassing wangaratta.

Mr Griffiths said Wangaratta, like many regional and rural health services, relied on medical staff from Melbourne and other areas.

"We've got all of these locum doctors and junior medical doctors and other clinical staff coming out of the Melbourne restricted zones and working for us," he said.

"We can't run the hospital without these medical people, so that's probably the bottom line."
This is common in all states where the major hospitals rotate junior staff to the regions so it is likely the major reason is staff not being able to leave Melbourne because of the lockdown.

And of interest the Tasmanian government will no longer allow essential workers from Victoria or NSW to come to Tasmania. That includes health workers.I can still work in the north of Tasmania but I would only be allowed to fly in on the direct BNE-LST flight or fly via ADL to Hobart.

Do you have a source for this? 1) The NSW changes announced late afternoon Tuesday July 22nd came into effect 8 hours later and prohibited staff from NSW returning without spending the following 14 days in quarantine. Only sorted out AFTER it got blanket coverage on the media, nobody around in NSW Bureaucracy on Tuesday afternoon/evening to take calls.

Here's one of the articles about it last week:

Northeast Health Wangaratta was left without 80 staff on Wednesday because of tougher border restrictions.

Mr Griffiths said the first they knew about the changes was at 4:00pm on Tuesday when the new permits were released and staff were unable to register for an exemption, like they had under previous restrictions.

Frontline health workers were yesterday doing double shifts, specialist services like oncology have been impacted, and paediatric and ear nose and throat surgery cancelled.

I won't bother posting any of the articles about Gladys, "I wasn't told in advance" but they're there if you want to have a look.

Well, fortunately we have a court system and we know the investigative eyes of Australia (especially Victoria and Qld) will be all over this to make sure all the facts come out. Karma (presumably) will sort that.

It’s natural that the mother will try to support her daughter, but they can’t expect too much sympathy for what has been done in such a reckless manner.

Qld - 1 case, relative of (untested?) someone who attended Sunnybank restaurant. Apparently there is a link to aged care, which has immediately implemented their Covidsafe plan.
