Where are the SQ J tickets

Hi everyone,

I have been planning to go to Europe with my mum next September for some time. I have been tracking good J class SQ availability on Aeroplan. I have since purchased enough points to get me there and back for 2 people when they had a big sale. I am about one month away from booking my flights for next September. However, it seems all SQ J class tickets have disappeared. Does anyone know what’s happened?

On a side note, I am getting same issues with Velocity with SQ J class as well.

Will it help if I sign up the HSBC credit card and get an Aeroplan Gold?

Thank you everyone

I think I read somewhere else that there was a glitch with SQ availability? I’m sure it will rectify itself.

Star gold with aeroplan doesn’t increase the award visibility or availability, but it does get you through to the call centre in about 2 minutes! Which is well worth it if you want to construct an itinerary that’s not offered on the website.

There are other options to europe rather than SQ… for example the Qatar/Virgin flights to Doha, connecting from there to anywhere in europe with turkish airlines. The QR/VA flights have qsuites and caviar… and superb lounges in Doha. None of which you’ll get with SQ. SQ’s crew are usually superb, but the overall product is now falling behind their competitors from seats to food to lounges (for business class that is).

Thank you for your response, figures cross that tech glitch will be addressed soon. I am very much open to J class on VA/QR, but I only just have enough points to get one person there and back. However, even though I am Velocity gold, I can’t really see any availability either.

Are you just searching, on aeroplan, to doha only? When i booked my seats a couple weeks ago there were 4 seats available to PER, BNE, SYD and MEL just about every day.

You then search DOH —> anywhere in europe (Turkish flies pretty much everywhere). The call centre needs to ticket it though as it doesn’t show online,

I am searching for any European city on aeroplan. I can always see 2 tickets per flights even as far as last month. 3 of us are going, so I was hoping to get 2 x J on aeroplan with SQ and 1 x J on velocity on the same flights with SQ as well.

Are you suggesting if I am Aeroplan gold, I can try their call centre and they may have 3 x J on SQ (or any other J class)? My mother is almost in her 70s, I think to fly SQ on J is easier for her with the amount of stop over and the longer part of trip being the overnight part where she probably can get a reasonable sleep.

Thanks everyone for your assistance.

For individual flights, the call centre can only see what we see for most airlines (I think there are one or two partners that only the call centre can see).

But for combinations of flights, where you can find individual flights or groups of flights but not end-to-end, that’s where the call centre can help.

So you might find Qatar/Virgin to doha. Then doha to europe on turkish. But online isnt offering that combination. The call centre can put both of those together.

Searching just Australia to Europe can severely limit your results. Just searching SYD-LHR might show nothing, but there could be dozens of combinations by searching Australia to asia first, then asia to europe.

lol… almost 70s is far from old :D You may never find three seats on singapore airlines. But you most certainly will on other airlines. The main issue with singapore airlines is the very short flight back from singapore… no sleep on that one, whereas you have 14 hours overnight to sleep on qatar. So maybe consider mixing and matching your airlines?

Thanks mate, greatly appreciate your assistance. I agree your comments on the shortly overnight SQ flights from SIN to MEL. I hate those 7-8 hours overnight flights, I could hardly get any sleep even in J. (Might as well just stay up and watch movie if I am in economy).

I didn’t think of breaking up the trip as our party is little bit unusual where it will be myself, my 8 years old boy and my mother. Ideally we should try to get on the same plane, although I have not seen any J rewards seats with 3 seats available in the last 12 months on any airlines. Otherwise, I was hoping I can find J seats on the same flights through Aeroplan and Velocity.

In any event, I just explored your suggestions. That’s achievable if I book through Velocity separately, (Melbourne to Doha on one ticket, and Doha to Paris on an another ticket). Separate booking will require more points, but you are suggesting if I call Velocity, they may put that into the same booking and I can save points?

On the other hand, I don’t really have any option with Aeroplan as their only option between Doha to Europe is with Egypt Air. I have heard getting through Cairo can be tricky.

I also have very limited Velocity points, only 270,000.00 at this stage. The best I can do is get to 300,000 points in 1 month time.

Thank you again, appreciate your suggestions.

A few points to add to @MEL_Traveller helpful suggestions:
  • There has definitely been some changes to how SQ is releasing reward seats to partners over recent months on flights to Australia. First it was SYD - SIN not being available to partners, BNE - SIN not getting Savers released through KrisFlyer and now I'm seeing the same situation you are where SIN - MEL, MEL - SIN, SIN - SYD are now also not flowing through to partners. Hard to tell if this is just a technical glitch at this stage or permanent but either way a bit frustrating at Singapore used to be one of the most predictable programs there were. BNE still has lots of availability on Aeroplan which makes me think the restriction on MEL, SYD is deliberate.
  • Based on your messages I'm assuming you're in Melbourne, so it is worth considering the Turkish SIN - MEL flights, I have seen up to 4 seats on these services but they often aren't released until closer to the flight date (although I did book 2x about 9 months out from the flight earlier this year).
  • One option to consider to get 3 adults on Singapore airlines is booking 2x seats using Aeroplan then transferring velocity points across to KrisFlyer so you can book another ticket through KrisFlyer. Often KrisFlyer has up to 4 seats available on Saver so this could be an option (but would be worth checking how many Saver seats are available before using this approach).
  • There are always day time flights back from Singapore to Australia if you don't want to take the shorter red-eye.
  • There seems to be SQ award available on Aeroplan to Europe from Singapore, so the key leg here is definitely out of Australia to Singapore.
  • I do think that mixing up airlines outbound and on return can be a nice way to experience different products too, so maybe worthwhile to go via Doha one way and via Singapore the other way.
Hopefully the reward availability comes back for you.

Even if you’re flying singapore airlines you’re breaking the trip in singapore.

Not really much of a difference between that and breaking the trip in Doha. Aeroplan is a partner of virgin Australia, so you can book the virgin flights to doha, which happen to be operated by Qatar. Then you can add the connection from Doha on the same ticket.

It’s too early to see flights and flight availability for september 2026 now. And trying to find seats in June/July 2026 is problematic because it’s school holidays and european summer holidays, so a lot of the award space will already have been snapped up. September is quieter, so perhaps give it some time and check again.

There are other options rather than egyptair via cai! There’s turkish, there’s gulf air via muscat, etc. This is all included in the 110k points (one way) on an aeroplan ticket. And those connecting flights have four seats available! Getting three seats on SQ could potentially be very hard, so worth keeping the alternatives in mind.

Finally to add, while cairo airport may not have the best reputation, the same doesn’t apply to Egyotair’s dedicated terminal at Cairo. I flew in and out of there earlier this year and there were no queues and everything was very efficient. It’s not the most modern airport, but i certainly wouldn’t rule out Egyptair if there were no other seats available on any other airline!

February is a quiet month for travel, and if you have a look at aeroplan for 18 february you’ll see 4 seats in business DOH-MEL.
