Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

This should do the trick....

An interesting read.
Much like Gladys on the Kyle and Jackie O show “It’s easier to lockdown than rely on contract tracing”

And Dan “We don’t want to end up like Sydney”
“Ring of steel” etc
The virus is proving that it cares not for state politics or sound bites.

The sooner we are a nation again the better.

If you scroll down there is actually quite a cool time lapse map that shows (over 21 seconds) how the virus spread and took hold of Sydney.

Have a shift on the front line today so can’t wait to deal with all the vaccine hesitants… 🤪

Talking at work we fear that the QLD gov will be forced to use this white elephant in the quote ‘fight against the virus spread’ to justify the $$ of taxpayers money they have wasted on it…. I hope the fact they will want to use it doesn’t mean more stupid rules are coming down the track…..

Pleasingly the new CHO up here seemed very lukewarm on it apparently…

Thankyou for this.
Interesting time lapse too.
All the very best to you for the great work you’re doing. Stay safe

Dan basically over used the lockdowns. Doesn’t matter whether they were needed or not, but their heavy handed use was always bound to result in widespread non compliance.
And Dan “We don’t want to end up like Sydney”
I guess not. Sydney is not the most locked down city on earth. Quite an achievement, Dan.
The sooner we are a nation again the better.
Won’t happen any time soon. The anger felt by some about the “I’m right Jack” states, is pretty real. At the very least, many tourism dollars will be redirected.

Just imagine Covid without the feds , or (for a less sobering dream).. imagine Covid without the states.

Data on hospitalisation/ICU by vaccine statusView attachment 261579

It would blow your mind how many people still don’t believe this… after doing ‘their own research’

Agreed-there is an epidemic of misinformation. Fortunately the ones who swallow it seem to be less than 10% of the population

I found the data most interesting for how even one vaccine dose makes such a difference

I really found this a really interesting read (as locked down ‘rule abiding’ Melbournite).
Curious to hear from Sydney AFFers regarding sociodemographics which we know reflect determinants of health outcomes.
Melbourne is spread out like a jelly filled donut with (simply put) the 6-7oclock bite taken out. wealthy suburbs by and large are concentrated in the jelly. To ‘service‘ these ie ‘those middle class types having stuff delivered’ and industry the workers come from the entire circumference of the donut and cross though Melb ++. Trucks collecting from container docks in west head off in all parts of the donut
Sydney is more like the American style donut with the hole in the centre - and half bitten. Less area to ’eat’ the rest as no eastern side.
My question is (given it was 30 yes ago I worked in Sydney in Mt Druitt environs)… do the northern parts of the donut get services by workers from the north mainly or from north and west LGA’s (those most affected by Covid )?
I’m genuinely curious that with more area to service and industry in all sides of our donut Melb will always have lots of ‘movement’ for work purposes(acknowledging that Sydney has a larger population and tons of other variables.
None of this is to add to state rivalry, why any state better or worse , just intrigued by the article (and time on my hands)…

Thats me, $3000 to Fiji rather than Cairns
And why indeed would you.In the latest RACQ tours email you have 11 days in Tasmania for $5279 pp.

But 14 days in NZ for $4779 pp.
The Tassie trip does include Econ airfares BNE-HBA-BNE and the NZ holiday doesn't include air fares but a quick check of Wotif shows many options for a return economy airfare for less than $500.

Vic: 1965, 73k tests, 117 ICU, 85% first dose - 57% second dose (16+)
NSW: 580, 79k tests, 163 ICU, 89% first dose (will be 90% this afternoon data release) - 71% second dose (16+)
ACT: to come at 11:45

Chris Billington projecting Vic to get to a peak of around 2700-2800.

Vaccinations seem to have effect - currently 538 patients in hospital and 117 patients in ICU in Vic

NSW had a similar number of hospital and ICU patients on around 23 August - when it had about 800 positive tests. NSW's Vaccination rate on 23/8 was about 59% first dose and 31% second dose (compared with Vic's current vaccination of 85%/57%).

Yes it demonstrates how difficult it is to compare different trajectories allowing for all the variables including vaccination rates. So at present, while the latest Vic lockdown has been less successful in infection terms than NSW, it may be more successful in keeping hospitalisation down owing to higher vaccination rates.
