Exactly the same sound when my phone went off with a Tsunami warning whilst sitting on the beach in Waikiki last year!

So I knew what to expect.

The reality was rather rather disappointing

Apparently iPad iOS isn’t compatible (yet). iPhone 11 onwards and Watches.

I had my Settings page ready (iOS). As soon as it issued, I flicked it into Flight Mode and back again. Job done. These alerts have been standard stuff across the dutch for years so we are catching up. Sooooo much fuss in the media, I mean calm down

Interesting, because a politician (forget who) said that it would go off on tablets so I assumed that would include iPads.

Sounds like a few didn't receive it. And because it's considered just a 'test' then AusTest don't want to know when it failed to arrive. So not exactly a full scale test. I have iPhone 13 Pro and with Optus.

Some cellular tablets are comparable but that link is silent on which ones!

It's a cell broadcast - by design it doesn't record who receives it, and as such AusCert cannot know who didn't receive it.

Ok. So there was a failure somewhere. Wouldn't that be a good thing to find out why? I used the Tsunami/earthquake alert in Japan so think the idea is good, just surprised I didn't get it when the partner sitting next to me on the same Optus did.

My home phone got it, as did a phone without a SIM, that I use for scrolling.
However my work phone didn't, although it is quite old. People in the office reported a cacophony of sound.

Cell broadcast notifications are different to SMS and can be sent/received even if the mobile network is down/busy. It's also not reliant on having an active SIM.

All but one got it on the dot of 14:00. One got it at 14:09

I must admit I got a shock when my phone started talking to me.

Seriously though...people who hear voices may have found that quite traumatic and I am not sure how you get around that.

Agree. Someone sent a text into ABC today 'Stop complaining if you didn't receive it. It was a TEST to find the bugs. Report failures on the dedicated feedback page'

Oh, yes.

But I do have an issue.

Cell broadcast notifications are different to SMS and can be sent/received even if the mobile network is down/busy. It's also not reliant on having an active SIM.

So that why it appeared as a 'notification' and not a message. Deficient in that if you are in the garden and miss the sound, you miss the pop-up, so may not get the advice.# But you would see the SMS red dot thing if it was a SMS. A 'belt and braces' system would pump out an 'emergency' notification by everything that's going - notification and SMS. But I understand the state based systems will continue, so that may do it.

Next test should include both.
