Just curious what is the problem with RJ?


I flew them last August from HK to LHR then back to BKK in J.
It was great. Granted the seats were not fully flat like qantas but they were comfortable.
Service and food wascertainly comparable to qantas.

Price for my ticket including a night at the dead sea Marriott Jordan was the same price as y+ on qantas.

So if I was flying qantas I would have got a better (marginally ) seat and paid double the cost.

Or receive less with y+ for about the same price.

I didn't see anything to suggest they shouldn't be in OW

What did you pay out of interest?
 
Exactly, isn't the current conspiracy theory that Joyce is deliberately driving the business and therefore the share price into the ground so Dixon and his private equity mates can buy it up on the cheap?

I doubt this. Such a tactic would be risky as if they're found to be manipulating the share price then they'll all end up in prison. The board has a responsibility to act in the best interests of all shareholders.

I beleive there are 2 QF and 1 BA flights leaving in the afternoon. They all arrive in London early morning. I prefer to arrive at night because that is when I want to sleep (when I'm tired upon arrival after 22 hours of flying) so I can wake up fresh. Qantas seems to be obsessed with business travellers while airlines such as SQ have more options and they get business travellers flying with them. I know there are issues with landing rights at London but surely there is a solution for one flight that BA can help them with.QF had one flight arriving Sydney in the evening returning from LHR and they stopped it a few months ago.

I can't see a flight combo on SQ where you could leave SYD in the morning and arrive LHR on the same day. You can with EK however.

An A330 (or 787 if they ever come) leaving SYD somewhere between 0600 and 0800 could get to LHR in the evening.
 
I, too, wouldn't mind seeing an evening arrival option to LHR. However, the way I see it (and I am certainly not an expert in these things), such a flight would only suit passengers travelling from SYD (making the assumption that SYD is where the flight would leave from) to LHR, and would not suit passengers with connections at either end--it would have to leave SYD too early for domestic passengers to fly into SYD in time to make the flight, and would arrive in LHR too late to have useful connections to other European cities. (It may suit some passengers from other Australian cities who have had a stopover in SIN.) Ex Australia, it could work for passengers from places other than SYD if there were morning flights from major capitals to SIN to connect to the flight at SIN. This would require either additional flights, or rescheduling of flights from those cities to SIN. If additional morning flights were put on from these places, there would be a lot of QF aircraft idle in SIN. Perhaps these planes could continue on to places such as MXP, AMS and CDG (and other airports mentioned in some wish lists in other threads) instead of either lying idle in SIN or returning quickly back to the other Australian cities! It is a big capital ask, however.

Given that the evening arrival might effectively cater for only a very small category of passengers, maybe it could work with smaller aircraft, such as a 787. Maybe the use of 787s from the other cities as well would allow for some connections for evening arrivals to MXP, AMS, CDG, etc.

Also, I'm wondering what the LHR-SIN-SYD return flight times would be like.

Maybe what is needed is a good partner in Asia or the Middle East that has evening arrivals in many European cities and not just LHR as could be the case on QF metal.

Just my early thinking out loud thoughts...

I'm going to support downsizing the SYD and LHR hubs. The curfew is prohibitive, and SYD airport is just awful to switch between terminals. LHR, as has been said, is very expensive for landing slots and involved backtracking for all of Europe.
 
EK have struggled to make their 6am departure from SYD to DXB work.
 
What's to stop QF following in DJ's footsteps and dropping OneWorld altogether in favour of forming its own global alliances and partnerships and perhaps making more money?

To Mr. Hickey I say:

(a) Learn Arabic
(b) Being the head of a highly successful & profitable frequent flyer programme is a much more marketable than being the head of a < potentially > failed international division - so ready some ideas to cover the years 2012- 2014 in your resume. Perhaps claim you spent '12-'14 as a "stay at home dad" or on a "working holiday to the uk".

In terms of flight timing I was a big fan of the (now deceased) MEL/HKG/LHR flight.
 
What's to stop QF following in DJ's footsteps and dropping OneWorld altogether in favour of forming its own global alliances and partnerships and perhaps making more money?

They could follow the DJ strategy without dropping oneworld. Oneworld will benefit by providing a feed of pax onto QF flights.

Do you mean CX for Asia?

Oops, yes, Cathay Pacific.

I think they will struggle to enter a partnership with EK if it is exclusive. Both CX & BA would have reason to object. And I cannot see any reason for EK to want to join One World.

CX already provide a decent coverage into Europe. In fact it's the easiest way to re-deem QF points for J & then F seats from OZ:idea:;) Not to mention the stopover in HKG beats SIN any day of the week:mrgreen: the CX service beats QF & the FA's are better looking:D

There used to be another option to LHR (qf29/30 via hkg). It was for me the best timing.

Qantas doing something to improve the experience of their customers? Don't be daft, better to consolidate everything and "save money".

There's the rub. Why bother with QFi at all if CX is so good. And from PER they have a daily service (9 times/week actually) V twice weekly for QF.

When the sliding seat is removed from Y the consideration to CX is back on in earnest.

MIddle Earth airlines have an unfair competitive advantage - I believe they receive unfair subsidies in the form of magic.
