However don't get the issues against the A330. Only thing j can think of us no exclusive J upper deck, but what else.

first point is not the aircraft but the new timing are only good if BKK is your destination and my problem with the aircraft is that it has no premium whY

That is kind of what they wanted to do with Qantas Asia, except the flight were to Asia not to Europe. So no lack of creativity there, in fact they got hounded and hounded and hounded by many people on this board.

I think that might have had as much to do with the fact that the plan was total bulls**t, they didn't have a country to operate it in, they were clearly fudging the details, and they were making frankly stupid statements about flying narrow bodies on long haul routs and luxurious J class that was going out do SQ and CX as the fact that having some narrow bodies in Asia was a bad idea. It was a fiction and a distraction and if they were ever serious about it they so comprehensively stuffed it up that the idea is dead in the water. I would think the scepticism has been vindicated by subsequent events.

My message to QF would be to look at how you treat customers/passengers across the board and have some consistency in approach. We've clearly seen on this forum, the following aspects all seem pretty much arbitary, and in my opinion, usually boils down to the specific individual you deal with (and what mood they're in on the day):
1) Priority Boarding
2) Availability of award seats
3) Service On Board
4) Flight Changes
5) On Deaprture Upgrades and Op Ups
6) Status Renewals

It just seems to me that QF is turning into a tinpot organisation run for the benefit of the "old boys" and the whims and fancies of its staff....

For me it has nothing to do with UD or 747 over A330 - it has everything to do with a coughpy slopped J bed! This day an age there is no reason why any LH premium ticket holder should have to put up with such a poor product.

No big deal - we'll just enjoy a stopover in HKG with CX for our annual BKK/Thailand/Asia holiday.

BKK is hardly long haul. For most carriers in the world 8 hours is very much regional. If you look at other carriers flying into Aus on similar routes sure you will find long haul product to Sydney and Melbourne, but that is mainly because of demand for seats rather than it being long haul.

Now if you want bad, my last flight SYD-BKK-SYD in Feb/Mar was with Thai in J. On the SYD-BKK leg the seat was very much the same as Qantas skybed MKI as fitted to QF A330-300's and on the way back it was a sit-up seat similar to Qantas long haul 10 years ago.

I've no problem calling a 9ish hour flight LH....

Lie flat (not fully flat beds) are still common in longhaul business.
Even SQ has them on 777-200 and 340-500 aircraft.
Emirates (non 380), Virgin/V Australia just to name a few
JAL has also put them in its brand new 787

Just remember: QF only started installing Skybed Mk Is in 2003.

SQ has brand new (slightly) angled lie flat on 777-200 as a "regional" product for medium haul flights (up to 10 hrs) and still operate their original angled lie flat on long haul 777-200ER, but all 340-500 are fully flat beds now.

Qantas, Singapore, Thai, Cathay would all disagree.

I'm unaware of your sources but these are what CX, for example, define as long haul out of HKG:

Long-haul destinations: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Cairns, Auckland, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York*, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Paris, Rome, Johannesburg

+1 to this, everything over 6 1/2h is long haul in my book. Might be because I'm European but that is the measure we have always used and which I have seen most travel policies created around as well.
My Organisations travel policy is >6hrs = long haul = business class

QF are fitting their 747 fleet with fully flat J beds - BNE-SIN is an example of sector less than BKK that will/should have fully flat J beds.

CX all flights to OZ have fully flat J beds and have had them for a good few years....in fact they are in the middle of introducing their 2nd version of their fully flat J bed to the fleet.

I don't fly SQ or TG therefore, I'm not familiar with the product however, going by your post these airlines seem to be offering second class J seats so I'd recommend avoiding these airlines......J* is another that I would avoid.

They are only fitting out 9 of the jumbos.

The rest are getting phased out

But with no more A380s due till 2017 now, and still (I think) 20 747s - what happens to the other 11 given I dont think we will see a 787 in white until 2015.
The slope will be around for a while yet.

Wow, some really interesting ideas in here. Some slightly outrageous ones as well! :) I'll be sure to share the thread with the relevant people here at Qantas.

Cheers,

Many organisations use 6hr as it conveniently makes all Domestic Aus flights = Y, but East Coast to SIN/BKK/HKG etc J.

Rio Tinto use 4 hrs. Essentially if you go to the East Coast ex PER it is in J.
