ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Now that we are at 2400 posts I can say that the ATO thread has been quite a help. We are in London free of tax bills. But wait is that VAT 20%?

Yes it is just make sure you claim it back on everything you take out of the UK at the airport it's free money :)

Which doesn't quite work as well as AU... if you're resident here, as soon as they see the stamp in your passport saying so, it's bye bye any return on VAT!

Just paid my BAS for June Quarter so thank you Mr. Swan - sorry Mr. Bowen - for the points. Is it wrong that a part of me hopes the (likely) new Government does raise the GST leading to even more points?

I've referred this thread into the Cruise Critic Australian Forum. A few more happy campers now excited about paying the taxes they have to collect on behalf of the ATO.

I am thinking that maybe I became just a little warped from this thread.
Getting that last xx_k of points by doing a BAS prepayment on my Amex Ultimate before July 21st cut off was the give away.

Have you started looking at some points burning for possible September Dockers fixtures yet?

Yes Serfty we do hope to get to Melbourne during the Fremantle Dockers quest for glory and silverware.
We get back from the UK/Ireland about a week into September.
Now we got to see Hawthorn live on UK SKY TV but the crowd shots were too few for me to spot you.
I hope we can catch up in Melbourne in September.
This time I am hoping that I am not returning to a slew of tax assessments that come too frequently into my mail box back in Perth.

+1, no issues with $50k+ credit then $50k+ spend and 75k QFF points ;) it's especially sweet when the merchant doesn't have a surcharge!!!

I always make it mandatory with my suppliers that they accept Visa/MC without incurring any fee. Has worked for even some Top 100 companies though more failures than success there.
I also offer to pay invoices earlier than EOM which most accounts departments never take up as probably too hard for their systems to sort out.
I almost feel guilty as one of my contractors actually gives me a 7% discount to pay his fortnightly invoices by CC within a week.

IME, Visa and MC are never the problem, it's getting them to accept the AmEx that's the challenge.

There are very few (if any) opportunities to get an uncapped 1.5 QF pts/$1 on a non AmEx...

I was wondering if anybody could recommend the best card to use for acquiring Kris Flyer points for ATO Amex spend? I know about the Westpac altitude but i am looking for any equivalent or better alternatives.

Thanks

I'm not aware of any other credit card that even matches the earn rate of Westpac's Altitude Black Amex or Singapore Airlines Platinum Amex for ATO transactions (both earn 1.5 KF points per $).

The only other Aussie cards that can earn KF points (directly or by transfer) are those issued by Amex (direct), ANZ, Bank SA, Citibank, HSBC and St George. Most earn 0 or 0.5 pts per $ with ATO. I think the next best is ANZ platinum Amex with 1 KF pt per $.

Take 2 Bex, a stiff Brandy and go to bed, check your temperature in the morning.....clearly demented.....paying tax early..don't give the Government any bad ideas or they will expect it !

NAB AMEX PLATINUM = 1.5 per $

"Bex is better" according to an old advertisement.
The best Kris points come from Westpac Altitude Black and Westpac KrisFlyer Amex when dealing with the ATO.
Non ATO for KrisFlyer points goes to Citi Select and it is an easy to use Visa card.
