ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Ah, fancy that, no wonder there's no points awarded. Still, this is a good option if coles mastercard card fee is slapped back on their website.
So if I purchase the giftz prepaid digital mastercard with either a US or AUS amex will I get the frequent flyer points associated with the $ amount of purchasing the gift card?

I have a tax bill due on 11th Dec, next Monday.. and the payment plan option isnt loading on the mygov website for some reason..

I can't speak for the US Amex, but the Aus Amex should give you rewards points..

I wound't buy coles mastercard overseas. Logging in the card is ip sensitive. As soon as you try to check the balance or check the card via an overseas ip address, it instantly locks the card and you need to call to get a replacement. I have been waiting for 6 weeks now for them to replace the card...

You can buy these using US Amexes no problem. And if you are draining via the ATO, you shouldn't need to check the balance — buy, drain, done.

Though I've found ATO limits the number of payments on the website to 5 x per day and if you're over-paying, then that's great for you, they won't refund the $$ like they used to do - I'm assuming they're concerned we're all laundering money (with the ATO) - I hear it may be possible to get the $$ back as a refund to the source cards but that would defeat the purpose. If you're going to prepay the ATO just be sure you can tie up this much working capital should you not receive a refund.

This is my experience, YMMV.

I have a tax bill coming up and looking to hit the minimum spend on a couple of new cards so I can get the bank bonus points.

Have been doing some reading and still quite confused as to which avenue to go down. Main factor for me is that the service I use will have no chance of not being accepted by Suncorp or Westpac for the card minimum spend. Not overly fussed on the points earn from the service provider, just needa hit the min card spends ASAP.

The cards I will be using are Suncorp Clear Options Platinum (non QFF) and Westpac Velocity Altitude Black, if that makes any difference too.

I have an ABN as well (but the ATO payment is for individual income tax).

So whats best for my situation?

I used Sniip recently to get the min spend done as well as pay a personal tax bill. If you haven‘t used Sniip before there is a referral bonus which makes the fees less painful

Yakpay using the Westpac Altitude Black is a good return. The Mastercard has the lowest fee and results in more air miles than either Visa or Amex. The fee is currently 0.8%. I showed the calculations for this upthread. Can link it to Xero or MYOB.
Only referral points is for the referee if you care to use it. :) Yakpay Referral thread
There is an added benefit of either bonus Qantas or Virgin points in addition to the points earned by the card itself.

Great thanks, so yakpay will definitely count towards my card minimum spend (for bank bonus points offer) on that Westpac card? Same with the Suncorp card?

Absolutely. All Yakpay payments will appear in the Westpac account for your Mastercard. You earn points on the Mastercard Black plus you receive 1 Qantas or 1 Virgin point for every $10. If you pay $50,000 for instance you will earn 5,000 bonus Qantas/Virgin points. You can elect to use Rewards Accelerator, pay a higher tier fee and earn more Qantas/ Virgin points. I have not done the calculations to see if it is worthwhile.

Just realised my ABN got cancelled not too long ago.

So can't use Yakpay if no ABN? Assume then next best thing would be Sniip? Works the same way and would count as valid spend towards credit card minimum spend for sign on bonus points with the bank?

So what’s the cheapest way to pay the ATO now with Amex Plat Charge? sniip is 1.99% or so, and appears to be the cheapest? Or is there another work around?

Yes if it's a large amount. Small amounts seems there are a few gift cards etc that still work.

There is pay.com.au who are a smidgen cheaper than sniip but you need ABN and their premium monthly plan which might defeat the purpose depending on your spend and frequency

Very strange, cole mastercard digital can't be used to pay ato today. I wonder if its just a ATO thing and it would be temporarily.

I couldn't with a physical one, three days ago, and multiple other reports over last week. Not a card problem as used at agl and hcf. Likely end of road for the method
