ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Well, not the worst ever - at least it's something. I can live with 1.6c per point if its tax deductible, but BW is still delivering at <1c per point touch wood.

Sorry updated my post - it's ~1.1c after tax. Can anyone here confirm they were given 1.5 points per $1 on the Westpac Bus Plat Amex for ATO?

I was going to lodge a new BWW form but changed my mind as one is enough. No need to be greedy and no need to draw attention to us.
Not everyone has received a Qudos rejection but I was aware of one just before heading to the US. I do use the card to pay for multiple household expenses as I like the point per dollar deal. I have tried to make the card profitable to Qudos.

I have tried to make the card profitable to Qudos.

I think this is the key. They would have systems that would run numbers on profit per card holder. Any card holder with a profit <$x would set alarms off. At which point they would have process to look into it further. Now i'd say the broader community might be ruining it for themselves. I'd say eventually Qudos will just say ATO is 0.25.

Go into a tax office with the amount owing in cash (legal tender amounts!) and as you are paying your bill ask them whether it is easier and cheaper to count the cash, store it securely and bank it or just accept the CC without the rip off surcharge!

... Let me know how that goes for you...

I've been successful with my local council, paying my rates quarterly in cash. It became too much for them in manpower to process the cash. Imagine the chaos if everyone paid large debts in cash. The b**tards would beg us to use cards.

Not surprised the banks have made it unattractive since they don't make any money with 0.42% merchant fee.

...and now Westpac has cut their transfer rates to KF and Asia miles. from 1.5miles/$ to 1.2miles/$, effectively 0.75miles/ATO$ to 0.6miles/ATO$

Received a refund for an over payment in June.I put the funds into Westpac and ANZ hybrids to get about 6.5% running gross yield while I look for a good investment. Anyway we ended up with an extra 122,000 points.

St George just cut me off. Went to make a payment and card is invalid and I can't log into my account.
My findings:
$30k seems to be the magic number for an auto cut off
However I was trying in daily payments of under $10k, over several days I ticked over $30k and then got cut.
I was paying my personal tax liability and not my business tax liability though...
I was also putting through personal spend

Hope the above helps. I'm stuffed now. Used to be ANZ... tried with Qudos but I didn't 'earn enough' money which is ridiculous, I probably earn to much money and they figured what I was going to use the card for.

Any other cards besides the poor earn rate of AMEX and ANZ Business CC?

Thanks for reporting Gravity. If your findings are correct, this would effect Bank of Melbourne, BankSA, westpac etc. I presume this was for the Amplify Card?

You could apply for the Jetstar Platinum card which is good for 1 to 1 up to 100k pa. it's not too hard to get and has a signup bonus regularly. Or have a crack at Bank Australia.

???? Did you receive notification on a statement. Do we have a start date ??
I think it was in my statement.

There's a new thread for this: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....-altitude-points-devalue-september-77626.html

That's a bummer! I just got approved for this card.
So single payments over $30k got it cut off? or $30k in a statement period? May I ask if this was over your card limit or under?

Try the CBA business Platinum Amex, 300,000 pt cap annually (=$100,000 spend). I think it works out to be $1=1.5VA=1.11KF miles.

After about 7+ years we are seeing more frequent changes than ever before in this thread. That said we have 5 CCs that still work and the sixth is at the points capping. I have really enjoyed having a month off from paying the fiscal fiend. Both my sons have just reached the point of not having CCs that produce anything of much value as Westpac Black Altitude Amex is about to lose its gloss for Kris Miles by late September.

Thanks for the tips, I will look into those cards.
I tried payments under $10k each time but did go over $30k in a statement period. As soon as it went over $30k it auto cut off. My card had a limit of $15k however i was topping it up each time so I didn't go over negative $15k

I looked up my Q card and it is still working as are BWW and BWP. The W Kris Flyer Amex is a real workhorse. Citi US is working brilliantly for both of us. Not so good is the US Amex Premier as their currency conversion is too tricky. It is a great points earner in the US.
Do try to be fair and give your CC some profitable transactions is what I am thinking.
I can use Citi US in Australia as there are very fair exchange rate conversions almost 100% of the time.
