ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Thanks for the tips, I will look into those cards.
I tried payments under $10k each time but did go over $30k in a statement period. As soon as it went over $30k it auto cut off. My card had a limit of $15k however i was topping it up each time so I didn't go over negative $15k

So did you get points posted for the first $30k?

Any chance we can get this added to the post at the beginning of the thread ?

I'm going to start to summarise some of the cards that are known to still work

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I for one, would rather you didn't. Since I got into this game a few years ago the opportunity for earn has been progressively closed down. It's likely, given the recent RBA & ACCC crackdown on CC surcharges that this momentum will be continued. The last thing we need to do is advertise, on a public forum, what's left. Doing so makes me worried that we would experience a sort of 'tragedy of the commons' effect.
There's enough information in this (huge) thread for anyone that can be bothered to figure it out for themselves.

Yeah I agree with boffman - someone will be able to find it themselves, better not to advertise on front page as this thread comes up a fair bit in Google.

The same kind of thing happens in SIN (where I'm based in) as well. Usually, some new person comes into the forums, thinks that they know everything, and advertises the earning methods while boasting how clever and wonderful they are. As a result, most of those methods have been closed, and the core group now no longer share anything at all (in the public forum, at least). There have also been cases where people specifically posted incorrect information to ensure their prefer method is not going to be used by others. I would rather we don't head down this route.

I totally agree, by making the info easier to find it draws attention to and probably shortens the useful lifespan of the few remaining cards.

What's the first rule of fight club?

Wouldn't agree that this was my intent at least - it was more making a summary of possible methods, something that I felt was lacking. It'd probably be easier to look at private threads (for members only) that we can discuss this in if this is an ongoing concern as honestly, certain cards (and letters, etc) have been uploaded numerous times. A google search of "ato + (known card name)" returns 3 top results all linking to these posts, something that should not be indexed by google.

That's a really great suggestion.

Apologies, I probably didn't phrase it very well. It's more of an account of what's happening where I'm based. It's clear that you've been around for a few months (and possibly longer as most have a good read before hitting the join button) so I'm pretty sure that is not your intention. Things do get quite intense where I am. Someone has even set up a blog, and copied the information from a forum, word for word, and tried to make a quick dollar from it.

Private threads would work well in theory, although I'm not sure how we would determine access. Probably best to talk to admin/mods if we want to go down this route, but I would suggest we make a well thought out submission rather than saying we want one now without having worked out the specifics of what goes in there and who can access it (level of membership? post counts? time since joining?).

Even if it was just for authenticated members only (any level) that would get the topic out of the search indexes, if that's what we want.

What's this - 8 days without a post???? Things have gone a bit quiet here, haven't they!
Just reporting am back in the ATO game and have amassed 120k in first two months (will transfer at 2:1 into CX/SQ/VA etc)
Happy days and no phone calls or letters yet

Too busy using my points! Haven't logged in as travelling for the past 3 months. 700k points burnt.

Shifty sounds like you are enjoying the results of your work. I did the opposite where I bought a QF ticket to gain double status credits and Platinum bonus points for Mrscove and myself. I will be traveling to Sydney and Melboure a few times from Perth for business and I am trying to get the A330 refurb suite each time. That uses 36,000 points each way.
My eldest son wants to go to Russia for football so I have to book a long haul to get him there and back.
Our next run is to Las Vegas in December for a trade show so that has used some Kris miles for that booking.
Having a month off from paying ATO has been very nice and certainly a big change for us.

We probably shouldn't talk about Australian Business Traveller like that lol :D :p

Hi All
Just seeing if my math is right
Say I pay a tax bill of $100 via credit card
My card earn is 1.25points per dollar = 125 points = 62.5 velocity points for my banks conversion.
Ato charge 0.42% fee = $0.42 = 42 cents
So 42 cents 'buys' 62.5 velocity points?
or 0.672cents per velocity point? is this a good price?
cheers

I was going to buy a coles prepaid mastercard with no load fee using my cba diamond mastercard, then use that prepaid card to pay tax.
Apparently you can buy $1000 increments at a time - it's on ozbargain.
Is 0.672cents per velocity point? is this a good price?

AFAIK Coles Financial Services P/L would be considered a utility/insurance earn - unless you can buy this card from Coles themselves it's not really worth it.
